no. still on iburst at the moment but contract coming 2 an end soon. Ill stay clear of any contracts from now on lol.... rather move around between ISP's whichever is cheaper

I can hardly believe it... how long is this offer for? I just re-applied for my ISDN to ADSL upgrade on Monday or so, but via head office and emailing someone there.

Hi guys
Phoned telkom today to get an ADSL line and told the lady i want the self install, she then told me that because i am doing the self install i get a free modem (USB or the wireless one).
I was sceptical at first and asked if this is like a contract and she said no, its part of a special they now have going because I opted for the self-install and decreasing the workload of the technicians and other ppl that didnt take this option... Don't know if this is only for Western Cape ppl.....
Just thought id let you guys know....
When did you exactly apply, I did on the 16th and no one mentioned anything...

I asked at the Telkom Direct shop at Kenilworth Center today, and they said they dont have stock yet of the routers, but they will be 4 port wifi routers... Proof of the pudding will be in the eating!
I already have a Billion 7300G router, bought when I thought I was getting DSL back in November!

Very like Telkom to charge you when you request a self install on a new line and then because they charge you they say that it couldnt have been a self install (Nobody installed one thing in the house, it simply was a reactivation of the line) and told me that if I had ordered the activation and the ADSL seperatly I wouldnt have had to pay for the installation of R437 and I would have recieved a free modem. This is on two premises.... Just great so now I am R874 out of pocket (Yes they also charged an additional R350 for both my lines to be activated) and I dont recieve the free modems....
Needless to say im going to be in the Telkom Direct shop fighting with them for the rest of the week im sure. :-(

Chalk up another success story. Applied on a Thursday (15/02) and by Tuesday (20/02) it was all sorted out on their end. Picked up a free wireless router and all is well.
Only problem I encountered was the online verification portal not working. Had to phone the 24hr ADSL help desk to confirm that all was ok. They admitted that the portal isn't working for a lot of people.

Waiting on my Telkom mate who heads up part of the ADSL helpdesk to give me feedback on getting prepaid ADSL running.
I got a prepaid line running and don't want to convert it to contract and would like ADSL 1024 running ontop of it.
Would be interesting to know what D-SLAMS cost them now since the ratio would probably be 200 telephone lines to perhaps 2 out of them being switched to ADSL

All I can tell is that it's a "Mega 100WR"
What resides under that logo I'll never know. Seems to be working OK after about 5 resets (couldn't access any local sites. How often does one hear of that!)ADSL Newbie

I've applied for my line 22/02 (Self-Install) and no-one told me about a free modem!!!
I did have to apply for a normal telephone line as well..
Do you think this might have had an affect?

Line is not required - sounds like you are being done - nothing unusual from telkom. Phone them and insist on your free modem but make sure you do not sign anything that looks like a contract.
