Please Telkom Sirs, explain to me how by having 30 year old, weathered away copper in ground, with a noise level worse than a 16 year girl with PMS, is "NGN or "World Class"?
You upgraded the exchange to 10mbit/sec, Good Job, but it is completely f***ing useless when all the copper in the area is so deteriorated that no one can actually use 10mbit/sec. Big it up to the department of redundancy department!

Peering, however, is not meant to amount to free provisioning of network infrastructure by one party to another since someone has to cover the capital expenditure of the network.

Now listen up you daft Telkom buggers.
The "capital expenditure of the network" you are referring to is supposed to be recovered by users of that network.
e.g.
1. People that use your equipment to host their sites or
2. People that use your equipment to get onto the internet.

There is no need to charge again when somebody accesses the network that is already being funded by the 2 points above.

Perhaps if you had realised that a long time ago you would have actually tried to sort our your dismal and disgusting hosting offerings Telkom.

Typical Telkom response. They don't give a sh!!t about us consumers! Since this whole debate about open peering wouldn't make sense to most of the SA consumers, they can get away with saying whatever they want.

Mweb should get this news on News24 and break down an explanation to the viewers. They would need to simplify all the terms and explain what they are trying to do and what Telkom/MTN/VodaCom are doing to hold this country back.

If you read the comments on Facebook, 9/10 people have no idea what open peering means at all.

Those big mouths at Telkom and MTN better watch out.
At the moment they can point fingers and say they're not going to peer for free but if enough customers move their hosting business to MWeb (or an ISP that peers locally with MWeb) they're going to be in trouble.
Once people start picking MWeb (or an ISP that peers locally with MWeb) for lower prices and lower latency, the ISPs that don't want to peer for free are going to end up being the ones with a "high latency" network.
I think the critical point is to get a big player or two on board like IS.

I fully support MWeb in this move and I'm quite content to put up with a bit of latency to local sites.
Never thought I'd one day say this: Go MWeb!

Biggest telecoms company in the country and they don't have the first clue how to actually communicate with their own customers. They probably don't even know sites like MyBB, HelloPeter and Facebook exist. Nor do they appear to care.

Can you even imagine what will happen when (hopefully) they are no longer a monopoly and actually have to focus on customer service and quality? "Someone pleaaze help me with this interwebz thinggg!" "There are people in this box and I can't get them out!"
