Telkom "Blended" Cap increase to 5GB

Hi people I checked my bandwith usage today and noticed the following:

Dear subscriber

A friendly notification that according to our records your online usage as at [2008-10-11 23:59:59] reflected the following:


Username: onlinexxxxxxxx @ dsl512telkomsa.net


ADSL bandwidth usage report


Blended Usage
Uploaded - 251MB or [0.24GB]
Downloaded - 3.66GB
Combined Total - 3.91GB
Percentage used - 72.42%
Status - Not Capped


Local Usage
Uploaded - 0Bytes or [0.00GB]
Downloaded - 0Bytes or [0.00GB]
Combined Total - 0Bytes or [0.00GB]
Local Bandwidth Allocated - 30.00GB


Please note billing for local usage will commence only once allocated local bandwidth is exceeded. Refer to www.telkomsa.net for per GByte charges.

Thus if my Blended usage is 3.91GB and it says its 72.42%, a little maths and......
3.91GB = 72.42%
XGB = 100%
~ 3.91/72.42*100= 5.4GB

So, has telkom increased the cap, or is their system just poor at maths???:eek:
 
I just think they got the percentage's wrong because most users can do about 6gb with their DO3 package.
 
I can also do 6GB on a 3GB cap.

Also, I'd avoid going over 45GB (on a 30gb/3gb account) when it comes to local usage.

You'll get charged then.

I've been testing the waters, 45-50GB and u're fine, anymore and they whip out the belt and start charging.
 
didn't you have a subscribe to a certain package to get what some of us are getting now?

Not sure if it is intentional or just an error but the percentage used seems to be based on the collective capping limits (i.e including the collective usage which follows your individual threshold). On a 3GB account that has been 5.43GB for the last few months.

What is Blended Bandwidth?
Blended bandwidth is international and local bandwidth combined that accrues prior to you reaching your collective threshold.



What is Local Only Bandwidth?
Local only applies to websites hosted on servers that are located in South Africa. Please bear in mind that it is not to say that a website with .co.za is hosted on a server in South Africa since it can be hosted internationally as well. Also note that local bandwidth will only accrue after you have exceeded your collective threshold.
 
I'm, not sure if the limits are slowly being eased, but last month I spent the entire Month using my Mweb saix account and didn't get capped at all, a total of 8.74Gig and am still using it now at 3.72Gig so far. I normally cap both my Telkom and Mweb accounts and then switch to top-up via Web Africa. Its actually great that we are starting to get more bandwidth, whether it be by design or by error, but it is rather frustrating to not be able to plan your bandwidth usage on a month by month basis and when the cap kicks in it is invariably at the most inopportune time.
