Telkom bumps up ADSL caps

ok so wait let me get this straight......has the 1gig cap gone and being replaced by the 2 gig? i have do1 (1gig on a 384 line) what will it be in Aug when this kicks in?
 
So effectively, not decrease in prices since Telkom is only one of the ISPs, our adsl prices aren't dropping.
I would be happy if they decrease ADSL prices, I stay away from TelkomSA anyway.
 
Duncan McCleoud was just on 702, Says in his opinion Telkom has shot itself in its foot. This will drive users to other broadband services and cause Telkom to lose revenue in the long run!

But what other provider can we use for 5Gig + usage? 3G is way too expensive, Neotel..

Telkom knows they rule the adsl...

If Telkom have removed the soft cap and you WILL BE capped at 5GB I am extremely disappointed but if this means you get 50GB local and you have a soft cap in place I will be extremely happy.


Guys you cant honestly say you got all exited before reading this article? The fact that telkoms name was in the heading should have made you think :P
 
Well, its certainly a better volley in the mythical broadband war than recent efforts from MTN (bandwidth rollover for wait for it...60 days) and VC (Free Internet - well, no, actually 10% extra)

The real war begins in the ISP market when new Seacom-based products hit the shelves.

I'm still beyond puzzled as to why Neotel have not yet offered ADSL products, even if it is over Telkom's infrastructure.

Contrarily to the slogan, there can actually be more than one. I assume the Duncan McCloud on 702 was the ICT journalist from the Financial Mail.

Interesting how Eskom has to lay out so much detail to motivate their price increases when proposing tariffs to the regulator, yet the press releases around the Telkom tariffs give no motivation for why they require the 1.7% increase. Sure, Eskom is asking for a much bigger increase but at least they put their assumptions and input cost increases on the table for experts/critics to evaluate. Why can't Telkom do the same? Oh, wait - ICASA... But I sure would BS they would spin to try and motivate any kind of increase.
 
I don't agree with the last paragraph of this article plus, Telkom has anally/vaginally/urethranally ****ed us for YEARS, now suddenly we should applaud that their price increase is well below what ICASA forced them to have in the first place?

I almost applauded you Telkom, instead I went ahead and died a little inside (again) due to your monopolistic business practices and taking for granted what my grandfather and his father built in this country only to be exploited like this

Sheer numbers. Remember that we who use 5GB and more are by far the minority in South Africa. But there are literally millions who use less than one Gig. Most of them don't even know how to use 1 Gig or what to use it on. They make up the massive number of subscribers that are the tasty subscriber base to the telecomms companies. Doesn't matter that they don't use much.

look at it this way. Telkom can get

10,000 users who use a R400 cap = R4,000,000 per month
or
100,000 users who use a R100 cap = R10,000,000 per month

Don't you think they are gonna go after the little guys?

The problem is that I have to use them for ADSL :( I was really hoping that they would drop the ADSL line rental charges by 20% or something. Then if the smaller ADSL ISPs used SEACOM to get me cheaper ADSL bandwidth it is all good.

There is seriously not alternative for me so I am screwed :( Nothing seems to drop prices in this country!
