Telkom capped ADSL data boost: ISPs respond

Well Telkom is changing their capped accounts for the better MWEB is changing their uncapped accounts for the worse

Convergence :)

Naspersweb wants you to use your bandwidth to pay to read beeld. Telkom wants you to download all dstv's series. And ranger is hinting at more. I wonder if this isn't a very clever response by Telkom to mwebs recent brain fart

Will it be uninterrupted free downloads after 12?

Also want to know how accurate their billing is with regards to this. Have seen similar products where you fire off a quick download at eg. 00:01 ... but their billing system only closes off the previous session at 00:04 or something, thereby costing you gigs while one expected it to be part of the unmetered usage.

You guys are missing the point.

If you can download all you want between midnight and 6 you dont need an uncapped account anymore. Just buy the R99 a month 5Gb package, and just schedule everything in the morning. R99 a month for that account is a bargain.

If you on say a 4/10 meg line, then rather get a do package. For around R130 more than you paying just for your line, you will get 40 gig of anytime data + all the rest. :D

And R100 less for the 4/10 meg line with the 25% discount :D.

Yeah, it obviously depends on what your usage will be like outside of the 12-6 slot. But if you are downloading only at that time, and not using it for anything more hectic like gaming/youtube etc the rest of the time the smallest package will work.

I'd put that R150 a month extra towards getting a 20Mb line, and being able to pull around 40Gb in those 6 hours :D

Telkom is finally doing what they should have done from the start - leading the pack. I just love being a capped Telkom Internet user during these times! :p

So many people got duped into dealing with MWeb. I knew from day one they were bad news. I have had personal dealings with the individuals at MWeb. A thoroughly disrespectful band of ******s who swagger arrogantly around like they're in charge of teh internetz.

They couldn't invent a paper bag if you gave them 40 years.

It's actually only R40 more taking the DO package instead of a 5gig R99 jobbie.

It seems likE MWEB just doesn't give a damn based on their response. I'd love to see their subscriber numbers since the new CEO has taken over.

I have schedule mine for 00h15 to 05h45.

Take from that what you will ...

Fark Telkom is actually making me thinking about switching. Value for money is definitely with them now.

What does 'shaped soft-capped' mean? Isn't all capped data in Telkom unshaped?

Is it me, or is this Night Surfer not really unlimited? I used 13% of my 40 gb cap downloading from 00:00 to 6

".....5.2.4 Free data on Night Surfer promotion is valid until 31 March 2014 (Not available to 1 GB customers)
All data used between 00:00am to 6:00am will not count towards your SoftCap. Once you have reached your SoftCap limit, the all Night Surfer data usage will also be subject to SoftCap,
5.2.5 Add-on services (Not available to 1 GB customers)...." Extract from telkoms terms and conditions.
Yes, I actually do read those things!

I think it allows for an average of 100GB monthly data to be used before eating into your normal data cap. That's enough for my needs as their double cap promotion makes up for the peak time usage when I use small amounts of data anyway.
