How does this usage tracker thingy even work
TelkomTrack.jpg

I've done roughly 120gb for the month of January and I'm closing in on as a power user (2mb uncapped).

Plus my speeds have been halved so I take that as a sign of throttling??

Different packages determine how much you can download. 1mbps is now the 2mbps package, so the allocated amount of bandwidth to the account is still quite low (~100GB you start to lose speed, whereas on 10mbps it is something like 400). When it becomes red, you become throttled. Check out http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/ to see your detailed usage (login sessions, bytes downloaded etc.) and compare to the usage tracker bar.

TelkomZA asked me to send a traceroute since I can't play online on my PS3 without extreme lag. I sent it to him but wanted to hear your guys opinion.

No offence to the reps, but my opinion is that posting traceroutes doesn't really achieve anything.

Not sure what a traceroute to saix.net would prove other than identify congestion on your local exchange (BTW it looks OK). Possibly TelkomZA wanted a traceroute to the game server?

Thats the problem with consoles. We can't trace the server address. Maybe if you setup a proxy server. Ranger said we should just post the game name for the PS3.

You might want to confirm with Telkom TI that you are on the correct profile, because from what you saying, you getting throttled at around 120gigs, and yet you on a 2meg line, your limits should start kicking in at about 230+-gigs, so give TI a call, and find out if with the upgrade, they upgraded your profile aswell?

The game I play the most is Fifa 14 and when I try to get a game it shows a latency bar, red is terrible orange is okay and green is good. I used to always at least get orange on Telkom and would always get a game but now I only get red so no one will play me because of the lag. I've tried Afrihost, MWeb and Webafrica and always get orange and sometimes green with them. So it must be something Telkom is doing or not doing.

I'm sure it's pretty safe to assume that pre-line speed upgrade throttle limits are null and void now as I can't see them doubling everyone's bandwidth and doubling the throttle limit. There has to be some give somewhere and this is it I must say.

Watch this space for people posting new throttle limits post-line upgrades...

TI Tracker looks OK to me - 350GB on 10MB Uncapped:

TiTracker-10MB.jpg

... I'd guess you’d get about 900GB before throttling based on the above but I think there are other factors at play here - the rate at which data is used (12GB/day) & time at which it's downloaded?

I don't think it scales linearly. Going from 100-300gb scales slower than 300-500 for me. I'm also pretty sure you're right that the amount of data consumed over time contributes too. Not sure about time of day though...

YouTube max stream speeds of ~120KB/s... This is local.
