Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Hahaha you wont believe the stories I heard today from the various tele sale consultants... some told me its impo to have uncapped 1Mb on a 4MB line, some tried to sell me 8GB capped and others didn't even know it was on their product sheet... it was a fun day and I eventually gave up! :P

The employee's are totally clueless retards, an IQ of 40 or lower, probably is a job requirement ... :(
 
Ok, this morning I bit the bullet and after about an hour on the phone with Telkom I now supposedly have a 1MB uncapped account ([email protected]) in addition to my 16GB capped on a 4/10Mb line running at 6.0Mb.

I've been switching between the two (easy with a IPCop firewall) and my speeds are the same on both - 5.0Mbps down, 0.45Mbps up whereas my axxess 1Mb uncapped clocks at 0.98Mbps down, 0.39Mbps up. This could be because Telkom haven't ironed out all the glitches the new accounts seem to have created or they created the wrong uncapped account - premium as opposed to Do Uncapped Advanced.

Obviously I'm now concerned about my billing going forward so I've just spent some quality time on the phone with Evelyn at new services/billing who assures me that my existing billing remains unchanged and I will only be billed an additional R369 VAT incl (not R2097) at monthend failing which I can declare a dispute - MyBB is now witness to my endeavours in this regard :D

The only problem is I now have a product that I can't provide MyBB members feedback on until it performs as described :erm:

Umm.. you are going to get a wake up call. I had a similar issue with telkom you cannot get the 1mbp uncapped on the 4mbit account. I asked them the same thing and when i got through to accounts they told me it was going to be 2500R.

No matter how much a consultant assures you they are not in the loop nor do they know how their own business models work.

Thanks inferno, I was aware of that, but if you look at the posts around here you will see that most clients are getting near full line speed on the 1Mbps package and not 1Mbps which is why I tried signing up...

Wrong i thought i was getting full line speed when i realized they had put me onto the fastest adsl package. Because they link the uncapped to your sync rate.
 
Why the heck would anyone go over to Telkom? The support is laughable and from all accounts the service actually seems to be slower then the competitors!

You clearly are talking out your arse, i am on the uncapped account and it performs MUCH better than ANY of the uncapped accounts ive used. Openweb, Axxess Express+, Mweb.

That's funny, i wouldn't be surprised. And this incompetence and imbeciles are almost everywhere. Phoned earlier to a well established wholesale supplier and asked for a quote on NVidia Quadro 4000 and was told that they don't have Nvidia cards that support 4 monitors but she can offer ATI. Unfrickin believable and this is an IT salesman. However back to Telkom, I was lucky enough to speak to a consultant with an I.Q. probably little bit higher then 40 and she was very convinced that you can not run 1M account on 4M line. Watch out guys, otherwise there might be a some ugly surprises with next Telkom bill. I did not sign.

I've just returned from Telkom Direct Walker Drive P.E. where Bob showed me my account on their billing system which clearly shows "Do Uncapped Advanced" at R369.00 on a "DSL - Fastest" line. He has attached a note detailing my visit and concerns.

Bob feels I've completely covered myself and the worst Telkom can do is close the uncapped account if they can't resolve the speed issues, I've done my best not to jeopardise my relationship them - BTW he also pointed out that the worst case scenario could be R4,000 odd as I have a 4/10GB line :D

For the time being I'm keeping the account (using it at night), and will report back on further developments.
 
To-day, the wonderful Telkom Direct ladies tell me I must wait till the 15th for Do Uncapped 1Mbyte line ... :(

At least that is not too far of ...
 
Been holding on for 37 minutes on the support number now.... geez , how hopeless can one be ?
 
Only stood for 1 hour 1/4 in the queue at Telkom Direct yesterday afternoon, bad back notwithstanding, hopefully you have a comfortable chair/seat ...

You havnt covered **** im afraid, you are well aware of the product you are using reason being you have investigated it etc.. But hey if they screwed up and managed to give you the account cool. But i suspect that it wont be all peaches and cream when they wake up

Hi there Did the lady told you that you will be charged the full amount from the 15th to the 30th and then the full amount again on the 1st?

Oops, this saga is getting to me, but you know I meant 4/10Mb :) Telkom has got some really pricey uncapped packages on the 10Mb capable lines.

My point is that the most they can charge me retrospectively for October is R369. If it does transpire that they can't support "Do Uncapped Advanced" on > 1Mb lines they would have to upgrade the product from November onward giving me the opportunity to cancel before using it. Make no mistake, I wont use their uncapped in November until I've seen the proposed billing (usually available on-line before month-end).

Maybe we're just lucky in the Eastern Cape but my (and my clients) experience with Telkom billing has always been good provided you check your account and declare disputes timeously.

That's funny, in tests between my IS uncapped, my Mweb uncapped and my regular old saix capped account the Mweb account comes out top every time.

The only issue with Mweb is that P2P protocols are subject to higher shaping during the day. But then again gaming protocols (WoW most notably) seems to be the best with Mweb. I constantly get 180-220ms on WoW compared to the 400-500ms I get with saix.
 
I don't think there lies a better ISP for gaming than MWeb. After all, they state clearly gaming is given the biggest priority on their network.

I just hope Telkom will bump up some of the DO customers to uncapped in the near future
 
How is it going with the Telkom uncapped accounts? Are you still getting top speeds with all your downloads etc..?

It's working fine but I've got it speed limited at the moment so Telkom can't accuse me of abusing it :)

I'm still hoping they can make the 1Mb accounts work properly on the fast lines before monthend.
