Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Ok so got the sms last Thursday to say that my uncapped account has been activated. Am very confused though... Still getting my daily e-mails showing usage off of a 16GB account. Should I have received a different login?

Anyone who can shed some light please???
 
There is something wrong then, I suggest getting in contact with Telkom or visit your nearest shop to double check things, you should definitely get 1MB speeds on dogaming. :)

Also please post your account realm bit for us to compare for the user below. eg @dsl512telkomsa.net is one of the ones they use :)

Thanks so much for the informative post, I will most certainly check it out and let you guys know if I get it working! Well it most certainly beats the IS offerings atm! ^.^ I only signed up today so I dont have this months account yet, I should know tonight if Im getting 354kbps or 767kbps ^.^

Well it certainly is the cheapest offering around so even if I get another daytime account I doubt Ill ever hit Mwebs R539! ^.^

Edit: yeah just tried to download from dogaming.co.za and can only get 40K there too so I dont think local will be full speed

About the tracker, it seems to be borked as capped users are not even getting usage readings (well end of September was nada) so best to check usage on SAIX here otherwise get in contact with Telkom and find out whats going on. :)
 
Oh my word!!! Been sent all over Telkom telephonic support this AM. Some ppl told me I have Premuim uncapped (Heart attack!), others 1MB, now I find out I actually have Basic! (Which explains the 40K) Also the consultant refuses to sell me an uncapped 1MB on a 4MB line so I either have to downgrade my line or cancel... Cancel it is then,just hope I dont get biled for this... :(

Edit: Phoned Telkom again just to check and it was confirmed that 1MB uncapped cannot be used on a 4MB line although the consultant somehow signed me up yesterdya for BASIC! >.< Now they want to charge me for the full month even tho basic will be useless to me... this is going to make me one unhappy camper... and now she cut me off getting to the help desk...

Finally spoke to someone who knows about the uncapped, and he told me it would not be possible to get full line speed (4MB) on a 1MB service which renders this product useless to me... wish they were a bit more clear about "no restrictions apply" after 10PM as I was under the impression it was like an IS account that gave full line speed... Oh well, live and learn... Now to cancel and make sure they dont give me a hefty bill this month... :(

Why the heck would anyone go over to Telkom? The support is laughable and from all accounts the service actually seems to be slower then the competitors!

Well I must say, for the few hours I used the 384 uncapped service, it did operate at full 384k speed lol ^.^

Make sure you are not miscommunicating on your side. They sell packages which include the ADSL line, and then they sell the data accounts separately. If you are asking for the package, then you cannot change the package. 1Mbps package is for the 1Mbps line.

If you want to get the 1Mbps data account only, then make sure you explain that to them. You can use a 1Mbps data account on any speed line.

For instance, if your DSL line is with Mweb, you can get your uncapped account with Telkom.

While their helpdesk is often misinformed, their accounts are from my experience more reliable (as they dont use Seacom) and they dont shape their uncapped any more than normal capped accounts. So the speeds are pretty much exactly as advertised (including the transparent throttling).

I was extremely frustrated when I was with Mweb and IS, as both of these providers shape everything I wanted to do. And when you query them to find out what they shape and by how much, they refuse to tell you. Telkom however use throtteling instead of shaping, meaning that you know exactly what to expect all the time.

Wow! My MWeb account has been unusable (even for Facebook/Youtube/News sites) since Saturday... Youre pretty damn lucky, have connections in the company? o.O
 
nooki probably stays in cpt, or connects to cpt data centre and otakud to jhb one, cpt one runs better :P

Ok, this morning I bit the bullet and after about an hour on the phone with Telkom I now supposedly have a 1MB uncapped account ([email protected]) in addition to my 16GB capped on a 4/10Mb line running at 6.0Mb.

I've been switching between the two (easy with a IPCop firewall) and my speeds are the same on both - 5.0Mbps down, 0.45Mbps up whereas my axxess 1Mb uncapped clocks at 0.98Mbps down, 0.39Mbps up. This could be because Telkom haven't ironed out all the glitches the new accounts seem to have created or they created the wrong uncapped account - premium as opposed to Do Uncapped Advanced.

Obviously I'm now concerned about my billing going forward so I've just spent some quality time on the phone with Evelyn at new services/billing who assures me that my existing billing remains unchanged and I will only be billed an additional R369 VAT incl (not R2097) at monthend failing which I can declare a dispute - MyBB is now witness to my endeavours in this regard :D

The only problem is I now have a product that I can't provide MyBB members feedback on until it performs as described :erm:
 
Yeah Im too scared to sign up for anything atm, a large majority of the staff there are not informed about these products and can hardly tell you anything about them. The most clued up guy I found there said that the 1MB account should never exceed 100K at its peak so I laughed off getting it for that reason... R369 for 1MB is too steep for me...

100k is 1Mbps. It would be preforming as advertised.

Thanks inferno, I was aware of that, but if you look at the posts around here you will see that most clients are getting near full line speed on the 1Mbps package and not 1Mbps which is why I tried signing up...
 
Woah woah woah... Am I right in believing that the line goes up to full speed after hours? As in if I bought a 1mb account for my 4mb line could I get 4mb speeds from 10pm-6am???

Forget 10pm-6am at the moment it's 24/7 (at least mine is) BUT this not what I or Telkom expect, it should be limited to the max speed of the account not the line speed.
 
JA, WELL, NO, **CKING, FINE - Go to Telkom Direct, Bloemfontein, stand a hour and a 1/4 in the queue, 4 persons where helped in that time :( , then the lady (?) , behind the counter tells me
"Sorry, but only business accounts qualify for uncapped"
, really ....

Hahaha you wont believe the stories I heard today from the various tele sale consultants... some told me its impo to have uncapped 1Mb on a 4MB line, some tried to sell me 8GB capped and others didnt even know it was on their product sheet... it was a fun day and I eventually gave up! :P
