Telkom Speed upgrades

This is nonsense .... we were paying a premium before, and for the same service levels others pay R 125 pm less. It's not our fault that the exchange has not been upgraded.

Can we unite and lodge a complaint?

I messaged TelkomZA on Twitter and keep being ignore (have tried every day), have spoken to about 10 agents on 10210 without any help and even messaged the TelkomZA rep on here without any feedback. Getting really frustrated. 2Mbit is too slow, I need 4Mbit but don't need 10. Irritating... Contemplating going back to 4 for now
 
If you were on the old 4 Mbps (your exchange is not 10 Mbps) ... and you call to downgrade to save the R 125 pm, they don't leave you on the 4 Mbps, they actually downgrade the line to 2 Mbps. Can you believe it ... and the call centre says that if I want 4 Mbps I have to pay the 10 Mbps price.

I am not sure how this is happening. I am also on a DSLAM that can only do 4mbps while Telkom moved me to the 10mbps billing structure during the upgrade. I contacted TelkomZA and asked him to move me to the new 4mbps billing structure as I do not want to pay for 10mbps if I cannot get it. He did this and I am now on ADSL Faster/Uncapped Advanced or as Telkom calls it: do Uncapped Advanced bundle. My line is syncing at 4mbps and not 2mbps.

I asked for exactly the same thing through the call centre and got downgraded to 2 Mbps ... and what's worse is that I'm paying more than those on the new 2 Mbps ...

That is not cool at all. I should be getting my first Telkom bill with all the changes during next week. Then only will I be able to see what is what.

Please send me the wording you used cause he didnt do it for me and i asked for the same thing

I asked TelkomZA to check if my DSLAM can do 10mbps as the ADSL checker showed that I was on 10mbps while my router synced at 4mbps. He confirmed that my DSLAM can only do 4mbps. I then politely asked him to downgrade me to the new/cheaper 4mbps service as I do not want to pay for something I cannot get and he did just that. I have had nothing but great service from TelkomZA thus far.

Hi, the 4meg up to 10 meg service in one price regardless of whether you can or cannot get 10 meg. At the moment the exchange you are connecting to can only go up to 4meg. There is no price difference between the 4 meg and 10 meg service. It is one service called the 4meg up to 10 meg service.

Seems like the person currently manning TelkomZA gets his information from the outdated residential broadband page that still shows the old 4/10mbps service. :(
 
I'm over the moon (today at least). My 2mb has become 4mb and is 10% (yes, a whole 10%) better. Thank you Telkom

Sounds like something else is funky. I saw a sizable improvement...even when running a 2mb data account on a 4mb line. I rate create a thread maybe if you don't know whats the issue.
 
People have tried that, they are now on 2mb lines.
Only because they tried to force the "free upgrade" ahead of time. Order or upgrade your line to DSL Faster tomorrow (1st Dec) when the new pricing kicks in and you should get 4Mbps assuming your line is capable of this speed.
 
Does anyone know the implications; Currently have 10Mb/1Mb ADSL - would love to go 20Mb if there is 2Mb upload - basically UPLOAD is the most important thing for me - or is there an alternate product out there that I should be looking at that can get better upload performance from?

Uncapped all the way though
 
So I messaged Telkom:

I was on the fastest product with a 4Mbit line. 2 weeks ago I got upgraded to 10Mbit but the line only synced at 7Mbit. As I have a 4Mbit account with an ISP this was wasting money so I decided to downgrade to the faster product.

The downgrade happened immediately without hassles and the sales rep insured me that the line would be upgraded from 2Mbit to 4Mbit within hours.

A few days later the line is now still only syncing at 2Mbit. The exchange does support 4Mbit and people around me have also been upgraded.



Telkom's response

The upgrades has been completed already

If you were on a 2 meg prior to the upgrades you would of been upgraded, the final date was after after you had downgraded.

You will need to upgrade to 4 megs to equal your ISP account.


SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME! My neighbours can pay the price for the faster product and enjoy 4Mbit while I have to pay the price for the fastest product in order to get the same speed???
 
My 2mb line is still at 2 and the telkom adsl checker still says I am at 2mb. :mad:
