TelkomInternet - Capped Users for May 2007

Lycanthrope, that is just what their argument is. They don't divide the cost per user, they divide how much bandwidth is allocated per user. That amount x in rands divided by 200K users or whatever gives 3G per user. Then based on total usage per month, they will start 'restricting' the 'abusers'. This is when I reminded him that the first word is 'capping', and the second word is 'high bandwidth users'. So let's say they work out that there are more 'abusers' for a certain month - then they will hardcap at 3G for a 3G account. If the percentage of abusers are less, they will hardcap at 6G for a 3G account. What you are RIGHT in saying is that since they starting introducing the 3G limit, there have been many more users on board, so that 3G should be made proportionately higher. This is when they come back and say 'but we made 3G cheaper'. This just amounts, once again, to corporate greed, and bla bla I hate telkom talk.

My point was just that they could give EVERYONE uncapped access, work off the costs of that to everyone (which will ultimately be less than what we're currently paying even for those that use "just" or "less than" 3GB) and then they'd have happy customers and less complaints about their mentally deficit bureaucracy.

according to telkomsa - download stats - I am currently on 4.34 gb, this on a 3gb account, by the end of the day , I should be over the 6gb limit. This on my measly ol 384k line that was only activated on monday at 4 in the afternoon, darnit.

Openweb uncapped here I come.

ohhhh I am so sick and tired from all this capping bull****!

what happen with the bloody SNO and all the rubbish that we have been hearing every few months? Is there anyone with brain in telecoms in SA who can actually do something constructive!

Ok, I managed to get about 17GB from my 3GB account :) (everything I had queued up was down) But, I think it was a mistake from their side. They seem to kill your user account when you cancel, and then since you are not the system anymore, they don't monitor your usage, but you cannot reconnect once logged of... So, if you decide to cancel with TI, disconnect and reconnect before making the call...and enjoy... or just maybe It was just me being lucky...

MWeb currently has around 80 000 ADSL subscribers, and is growing this figure at a steady rate.

Emphasis on "MWeb."

http://www.mybroadband.co.za/nephp/?m=show&id=1466

ADSL packages first entered the market in 2002 and in three years have grown to a less than impressive 120 000 users.

And that was 2005.

lol.. then for laughs (also 2005),
http://www.mybroadband.co.za/nephp/?m=show&id=1185

Telkom promises at least 680 000 ADSL users by the end of 2008

And either way, 10,000,000 / 80,000 = 125... R125 a head isn't a bad number either, even if they still expect the additional R500 for the line.

Do Broaband Cap?

Hi bonobo_slr, thanks for your participation here.
1: Does this 4Gig cap for a 2Gig account apply to the Do Broadband Bundle as well?
2: What do I do if I get capped? Can I switch to another ISP for the rest of the month or what does Telkom expect me to do? Convert my monitor to a fish tank?

Yes and yes.

That would be 203700 adsl subscribers using all of the available ISPs including Verizon and IS. I thought we were talking about TelkomInternet customers and not ADSL in general. My mistake.

Heh, don't worry about it. My fault for just spewing out nonsense most of the time XD

Just a question - I'm not with TelkomInternet.

How does one buy additional Gigs from TelkomInternet and what are their prices?

Phone 10215 (option 2 - according to the new "you've been capped' e-mail) or 10219 and option 2 as well.

Just say you'd like to purchase a 2 or 3 gig account, and then they'll put it on your monthly statement.

My statement this month said:

3GB - R209.65
2GB - R130.70
