Hi TelkomZA

More of a question I'm looking for feedback on:

We live in Bryanston and connect to green box ODE E4. This box is cut over to the main exchange in Olivedale +- 11km long cable?. That being said, my neighbous and I all have about 60dB attenuation and can't get anything stable above 1.5 meg. Now, on google maps I can count 5 exchanges that are within 600 meters of us. I see techies are busy installing MSANs in our area, and I'm hoping that you can provide me with some form of confirmation that box E4 will be moved to an MSAN that is much closer to us, because, honestly, 60dB attenuation? With this many MSANs around us? Seriously?

I'd hate for there to be some bureaucratic tape or just plain apathy that "it works currently, well, worksish and there's no need to change it" to be the outcome of these supposedly amazing MSAN upgrades.

Thanks TelkomZA

Pm'd TelkomZA, he responded and is assisting me with sorting out my ADSL issue. Much appreciated. Thank you TelkomZA :)

You need to take the lotto, what with you being lucky enough to have gotten a response from TelkomZa.
They've pointedly ignored me despite multiple reference numbers, calls to 10210 (and the routine merry-go-round between their ADSL and Internet teams that comes with calling 10210) and multiple PM's, admittedly with each ignored message resulting in a more hostile PM to them.

The closest I got to a response is them telling me my line was syncing at the wrong speed, but no word on whether they're going to fix it...

I'm the proud owner (and payer) of a 4mb line that can't go over 70kb/s

Hi Telkom - Not sure if this has been discussed on here already , so please excuse if it`s been asked for already. There`s much speculation with many users on the reason for speed related problems. Why not produce a list with all the known congested exchanges in SA ? That way many of us will stop trying to find solutions for non-existing problems and well wait for the exchanges to be upgraded. Surely it will also make life in the Telkom support department easier ?

Just a thank you note to TelkomZA. Since I got my 2mb line (max available in my area) I've had problems with download speeds. Speedtest would show 1.70mb download but my actual download speeds would sometimes be 10kb/s. I logged numerous faults to the call centre and every time I would get an sms back saying my issue was resolved. It never was. I was about to give up with my adsl when I stumbled upon TelkomZA on the forum. I sent him a pm on thursday evening 24 Oct explaining my problem. Next morning I got an email from him. He had investigated my problem and said he already sent a techie to sort the problem out at the exchange. (congestion problems)
By the following tuesday 29oct my adsl line was fixed. now getting 220kb/s downloads constant for the past week.

Thanks TelkomZA for efficient service. Telkom needs more employees like you.

TelkomZA , see my post above Skoolbus`post. That`s exactly what I refered too. Did he knew about the congestion issues at the exchange it would not have taken months to get to the problem.

Hi TelkomZA

I've sent you two PM's now and still waiting for a response. The issue that Charl claimed to have fixed last month is not resolved - please I need a response urgently.

Hi guys, I see a lot of post about problems but no direct reply by TelkomZA. Does he respond via PM or what. Because I have problem, when night time comes my connection drops and works intermittently. It started on Saturday night, I have made two calls to 10210 the one lady was helpfull and resetted my port, but I still have the problem so I phoned again tonight, but this lady refused to allow me to open a fault because she says the line tested fine. She was not able to tell me why my line is syncing at 8mb instead of the usual 10mb. So I ended up logging a fault via the Telkom App on my phone.

@Grubscrew:
TelkomZA does respond to the myBB PM's, but it can take a few days (less than a week though).

You may want to first check appliances in your home, light fluorescent lights nearby or electric cables running next to the telephone cable.

Perhaps create a new thread in the ADSL discussions thread about your problem, by posting your SNR margins, line attenuation and sync speeds.
Typically when you're having stability issues, we'd just recommend that you downgrade your line speed, because that should increase the SNR margins, which should be linked with the stability, unless there is some serious/big and random interference.

I'm having pretty much the exact same issue. Ever since the speed increase upgrades, my line keep dropping every so often. Not a constant time between drops. I was connected earlier for over an hour, and then just before this was connected for about 16 minutes, so it differs. I noticed this happening last time they did speed upgrades. Any idea how long this is going to be a problem. I have had awesome connectivity for more than a year on my 10meg line. Except for whenever telkom does speed upgrades. Help... very frustrating.

Thanks

Telkom line and internet is dead for the second time this month so irritating.

Pretty sure the technician has unplugged our line again to fix someone else's line like the last time.

Yep same here. Line went dead two weeks ago Saturday. Had to sit with no internet for about 3 days before they decided to fix it. Went dead again over the weekend, fixed it on Tuesday and surprise surprise it just went dead again few minutes ago. So I guess I'll only have internet again hopefully over the weekend. I rely on the internet to be up and running as I work from home. Was busy now with a very important deal when the phone line just went dead.

This is bull**** Telkom. Why am I paying you every month but you can't give me the service that I'm paying you for.. And also nobody can give me a straight answer as to why this keeps happening..

Thinking of cancelling this ****ty ADSL service and going back to wireless. Maybe more expensive but at least I won't have to deal with Telkom anymore.

Can anyone recommend me a good wireless provider. I'm currently using vodacom in my 8ta modem which is not bad at all. Has anyone tried Afrihost yet? I'm using them for my ADSL and so far very happy with them. Well that is when my phone line is working of course.. Not sure how they are with wireless?

Wish I could use wireless but my reception sucks so can't do anything besides slow browsing :(.

After many years of no problems I hope this is the last time it goes down.

I would hate to cancel my ADSL. The speed I'm getting is awesome but to deal with Telkom every other day to come out and fix the line is getting to much now. At the moment I'm spending more money buying data for my Vodacom than anything else. Now I have to pay my ISP, DSL line rental and Vodacom.

I wish you the best of luck man. Hopefully they can sort you out.

Tomorrow morning I'm canceling mine :crying: Had enough now!

Thank you TelkomZA.

After you logged a fault I got a call from one your guys yesterday. He took down my info and then...well...I don't know exactly what he did or did not do, but my line for the first time since I got internet at my place ran 100% the whole evening. ZERO problems with streaming. Zilch. Nada. Nothing. 0.

Thank you!
