got an email this morning to say i can upgrade from my current 4mb line to do premium which includes adsl up to 10mb
phoned the call centre only to be told i cant upgrade because my areas only supports 4mb.

whats the use of sending your clients emails to upgrade and then when we take you up on it we cant ???

Same this side – and then, wait for it, I did the unthinkable – I willingly gave Telkom my cell number...

Went along to their ADSL checker, to see if the same message I have received over the past 3 years [We cannot currently confirm what linespeed your exchange is capable of blah blah] would still be there when I typed in my landline number. It was.

So, left my details on the web-interface form-filler.
Included my cell number.

So far, 3 things have happened:

1.) My sms spam has taken off through the roof. Surprise, surprise.
2.) I received an automated sms 3 days ago, informing me that I would be contacted by a Telkom representative within 24 hours.
3.) I am still waiting.

Great promo idea. No idea what my line can handle. Telkom doesn't want my money.

Don't sweat it guys...been waiting for a phone and Adsl line to be put it. Phoned again today only to be told by the call-centre lady that "oh, it was scheduled for the 12th"??

I got put thru to the service department and held for ages to be told that yes it was meant to happen on the 12th but there was an issue with the Adsl but somebody was meant to call me and that installation will happen through the course of tomorrow. But can't give me a time.

He said somebody will call me tomorrow.

Let's hold thumbs...
 
My international ping has been super jumpy for the last 4 days. It's constantly changing every few seconds, ranges from 400-2000. I've done the following so far, after fighting with my ISP.

1. Tried 3 ISP's, got the same results from all of them.
2. Disabled all connections to router, except for my main pc - same results.
3. Changed the lan cable + tried wireless - same results.
4. Used a spare pc - same results
5. Contacted Telkom support with no reply from them yet. Telkom ticket number: #719473

Browsing/streaming vids/emails everything is perfect. It's just gaming...
I can't play anything, and it's kinda annoying since I mostly game.

Please assist me.

My packet loss on the line is insane, according to Battlefield 4 my in game packet loss (local server) is 10%...WTF!!!

A tool both of you can use is WinMTR.

Download it, run it and look at where the packetloss is being introduced on your line.

Any information you can provide in support tickets assists the resolution.

Bugger. Hoped it was server related. Hope you guys get sorted. I know it can be frustrating as hell.
 
Why does the 2nd hop in a tracert always times out these days? Did telkom switch it off?

They've switched over a lot of exchanges to a newer management system. Think it is called ASSIA?

There are apparently 2 two other IP's you can ping to see if your exchange is having a problem...just don't know them off hand. They are in some of the ISP support threads. I know @GhostR knows them. Seen him post them.
 
No reply/help from Web Africa - Telkom asked for a "speedtest" print screen - that was 3days ago. And ArenaNet (guild wars 2) made me go through a few steps and then made the conclusion its via my side on my line.

This service has been unworkable for over a month now... latest fault logged 2 weeks ago. PM'ed you the numbers.

Telkom sent me an sms for appointment to activate adsl , "scheduled for 15/06/26AD07:30."

Do the techs normally arrive on time or does this mean anytime from 7:30 till 4pm?
I would prefer to be at home when tech arrives as I want tel line moved.

I made a point of scheduling my installation / activation in a 7h30 to 12pm timeslot. I was lucky enough that I was the first appointment of the day (I assume) and he called me at about 7h40 and arrived about ten minutes later. However, you may have a different experience!
 
Morning all. Just a quick question.Up till May our exchange was 10Mb enabled.But since then we can't get download speeds higher than 3Mb. When we contacted Telkom they stated that the exchange is not only 10Mb but also 20 Mb. Now when we upgraded we first confirmed using the broadbandstats website if 10Mb was available which it said it was and hence we upgraded to the DSL Fastest Package.However now when we check it says that 4Mb is the highest that we can go. And yet Telkom are telling us that 10Mb is enabled even though we sent them screenshots showing that 4Mb is the max.Also we have an issue with the fact that our exchange has been "down-graded" and there was no notification from Telkom whereby they have been taking our payments for a product they aren't supplying ( which is the South African way LOL.) Who can we speak to with regards to reimbursement for the 2 months that we have been paying for the 10Mb even though we aren't getting the product promised by Telkom.
