The Bafana Bafana Thread

That was a defeat.

We have to focus on Afcon qualifiers now. We need to consider shoving 7-8 players into defence when playing against stronger teams like France and then rely on one fast player like Fagrie Lakay to breakway after counters. That was how North Macedonia beat Italy last week.

True, but I don't think Broos will see it as a big problem either. This was probably not our best team as Broos has offloaded our more senior players (Andile Jali, Themba Zwane etc).

A full-strength Bafana side probably would have lost about 3-0.

Problem is if Broos will fix the problem, because experimenting is good but we need to have a team, soon before the next qualifiers start. To be honest, his selection leaves more questions than answers, there is just not the right mix of youth and experience in the team, not enough depth.

Hopefully he is moving towards assembling a proper team because we don't know what he is thinking, but it was a disaster, losing is fine against a team of France's calibre, even if you lose with a high margin but not being able to create chances and test the goalkeeper is a problem.

Agree.

I am questioning the logic of organising this match in the first place.

Bafana Bafana are not even 8 months together as a team and someone decided to take on France. We are talking about a young team that needed gradual growth and experience.

This was like lambs led to slaughter. I didn't expect us to beat France, didn't even see a draw here.

I am, however, shocked by the scoreline. As much as I expected a loss, I expected the maximum goals to be 3.

Overall, and despite Broos' sometimes questionable selections, he is the first ever foreign coach I actually like.

All those before him were just big names with nothing to offer.

Yeah, comparisons were made by Broos between playing Botswana and France, but to be honest yesterday's team could have also struggled against Botswana.

If there was some semblance of order and good organisation in SAFA the U23 and U20 coach should be the assistants and the coaches should be selecting the team together, the team, or at least a good part of it should also be playing games for the U23 and U20 to get as much time as possible playing together, experiments can be done and we would have a larger pool of players to select from.

But as long as everyone is allowed to do their thing as there's no coordination we are really not going anywhere fast, there is just not enough time and enough spaces in the senior team to get everyone in.

What sort of team did you want us to play against? Manchester United, just so that we could embarass them on their own turf at Old Trafford?

As bad as that scoreline is, those are the type of games these players need to play, because they are learning, and it also exposes alot of flaws in the overall system within our game right now.

You have to start with teams like Scotland and some South American team, build from there.

Flaws will always be exposed but you don't need them exposed all at once and at the expense of player morale, especially such young players that you are hoping to mold into a formidable side.
 
One player who was exposed for being too ordinary with all his experience is Siyanda Xulu, he is really not the senior player we want to build the team around.

And it's not about Mbappe turning him inside out, just his general play is not giving us the Commander we need at the back.

We play a top team to test ourselves and it’s a problem because we got a hiding?

Many of us believe we should have beat Ghana and perhaps gotten into the World Cup. What would have happened if we gotten someone like Germany in the same group and they beat us 6-0? Would it still be an issue.

Last night was a friendly. Nothing at stake to be honest. We will play, we learn and (hopefully) we get better.
