The Banting/LCHF Thread

Hi Everyone

I have been reading this thread since February, after I started my at the end of January this year. I had decided late last year that I need to make a change in my life. I had been the big guy for most of my life and pretty much always been okay with that. I guess I just realised that if I didn't change something, I would not be able to achieve certain things that I would want to in life.

Now when I say the big guy, I mean the the BIG guy. I am probably the biggest person that most people have seen IRL. I guess when I started working 9 years and had disposable income I ballooned even more. After I had done LCHF for a month I bought myself a scale and decided to weigh myself. I had an idea of where I would be and I was not far off. The scale clocked in at whopping 234kg, first off I was just happy I registered on the scale. Later when you start to think about it one human being, a whole 234kg.....

Well as of today I am happy to say that I have lost 51kgs using LCHF, and I am currently 183kgs. Half way to the major goal I set myself, to loose 100kgs and then take it from there. I started off LCHF, added in very little exercise, started of walking for about 1.2Kms 4 days a week after work. Now I walk about 2.5kms regularly and do some lifting when I can now. In May I added in IF and haven't looked back. I'm still the big guy but I'm pretty sure after I have changed to this way of living I'm on way to not being the big guy!

I just wanted to thank everyone who has been a part of this thread, it has been invaluable to my journey so far! The advice and recipes have been amazing. The Loaded Cauliflower is a house hold favourite now.

Excellently done. If you ever consider going the revision route for skin, hit me up. I'm in the process of it and done 1 out of 3 ( total loss so far of 94kgs ) but I would seriously only think about it when you hit the right stage and even then, stay there for a while and see how your body adapts.

Keep going and just remember its a long haul.

OT but I found a new summer dessert for me. Small bowl with about four sliced strawberries ( all depending on size and cut, you know your own macros ) covered in zero sugar ultramel, very nice and great during strawberry season.

Zero sugar ultramel!!!!!!! where!!!!!!!!!

Zero sugar ultramel!!!!!!! where!!!!!!!!!
Pick n pay sells them. Not zero sugar sorry but zero added.

I use very little in a small bowl, maybe 4 or five tablespoons but if you stretch it by slicing four strawberries into pieces. Make a layer at the bottom, add two spoons custard, another layer and top up with two more table spoons odd. If you balance your macos in the day, makes a nice evening dessert.

Jeezuz well done bud! Keep it up. I know the struggle for us big guys but you are doing very very well all the best keep us posted.

caring candies chocs on special at Dischem for R13.50

About the candies, one poster mentioned the mylitol count was highesh, I think thats the milk toffee version? If you stick to the dark ones, it's a lot lighter but to be honest, one of those bars won't hurt you.

Check your stomach though, I've been on xylitol for over three years and my gut is used to it, I can handle one bar. Otherwise even half is nice.

Thanks man, will do. I definitely think I will be waiting a while when I get to that stage as I'm a giant baby when it comes to surgeries etc. I still have my wisdom teeth because of that

Its not as bad as folks think or make it out to be on tv. Maybe I have a high theshold of pain but thats how I feel. Will see how the leg one goes this year, maybe will be worse.

Im not sure if there will be loose skin for me (I have seen enough Youtube videos to know it might happen), I really don't know if I will be able to deal with it regardless if im thin. How bad is yours if I might ask?

I normally don't eat a whole bar in one sitting. I have max 2 blocks. As for the tummy effects I have never had an issue with them.

I love reading stuff like this. Dude you are adding years to your life. Think about that.

Should you stall at some point or wish to push the weight loss harder consider Intermittent Fasting, it's helped me out of a rut twice so far.

It got baddish. They removed 2.5kg of skin around my stomach, the incision scar is from hip to hip. The fold was drooping about 20-30cm below my actual waistline. My legs which are the next are a problem around the thighs. Knee down no issues as all, good tone but my upper segments have large portions. If I sit it actually "puddles" out on either side of the leg. If i had to measure from muscle crease to skin end, at it's widest I'd say is around 15-20cm, with a length from my groin to my knee ( tapering off as it gets to knee ). Good exercise will help you tone and you an bulk muscle as well but for me, I kept this in mind:

1. My work is very sedentry, so diet is far more important.
2. Fulltime job and kids at home do not leave much time to go gyming, not if I want to live life with my kids who I only get to play maybe 2-3 hrs a day anyway ( school, work, supper etc )
3. Do you honestly believe you can maintain the muscle bulk required to fill the void that the fat left?

Everyones body shape is different, so its a very personal decision and only you will know when to make it, if ever. I definitely need the next, for health reasons as well ( loose skin rubs and folds, causing it's own issues ) and my kids also started playing with it which was disturbing to say the least. I might not go for the third ( arms ), I do have wings but they don't bother me so much and my tone is such that again it's only the very upper section thats an issue.

Thanks for this. I am worried about my stomach the most aswell as upper body. Waist is was about 140cm at my worst (bierpens) and I have/had a bad case of man boobs, so this is my worry areas. I was a rugby player in my day so I dont carry much fat in my legs/thighs they are still pretty muscular so I'm sure that shouldn't be to bad.

I still have a long way to go before this will be an issue. Currently sitting on 20kg down about 30kg to go. I am trying to get down to about 95KG than I will hit the gym

+1 for IF. I started IF about 2 month ago and have never looked back. I started off with 18/6 and now fully on OMAD (one meal a day). It has made a massive difference.

Good startegy. Only look into it when you need to, worse thing you can do is pre-empt as that could mean multiple or revisions which a person doesn't want. The other great thing about naturally losing the weight is that your body responds so well. Folks can't believe how it looks and if compared to those who suffer from the very very rapid drop from gastric and the healing process post skin surgery is a LOT easier. Either way, good luck and keep going, if you ever feel down/challenged/etc, don't be shy , post in here or the weightloss thread, we all support each other. Feel free to pm me if you ever get to the point or want to ask stuff off public.
