The Error Code 619 thread

I am sure this was covered before but can't find the info.
What is this 619 error and how do we get rid of it?

It basically means you "mostly" can't do anything about it. Only thing that works for me is to walk away, wait a few minutes, try again. It's the equivalent of the "signal busy" sound you used to get on the old 56.6k modems when the ISP can't take your call.

Also, this is not restricted to Vodacom, i got this plenty on MTN . It's almost always during peak hours, so i'm sure it's related to tower/server congestion.

All day - 619, 619...

Have been getting the same STRANGE 619 error ever since yesterday. The call centre lady said it was a profile problem with my novatel 630. ??? So I've been switching to GPRS and back to 3G two thousand times to get it working.

By sending this, it's kinda obvious that it's working ... for now.

What causes a 619 error anyways??

As posted above many different things.

When you connect there are many components in the chain, right from your PC, OS, the datacard, profiles, the radio conditions, and many network and system elements.

If any of these fail, the end-to-end connection will not be established and could result in a 619. So unfortunately it does not tell us much outside the obvious; you cannot connect!

So the question is ; what changed between yesterday and today ?

OK, so I still had to hit the connect button 10 times to get connected, but at least it has been stable for an hour & half.

Yesterday they wanted me to delete my profiles and recreate them, I claimed to do as they asked ......... I lied. I did not change a thing, yet this morning everything is working.

BFK, you're using the linksys router?

Since I've been using the router I haven't had any 619s or dropped connections, it really feels like the quality of the signal is much better through the router. (Router is in the same place that the laptop generally used to sit; no aerial)

The Router is on another site, I upgraded the firmware and sort of solved the problem, it connects 3 of 5 times.

You will find when the card is in the router the card stands straight up, in the laptop it is horizontal, I find the signal improves if the card is upright also work with the USB modem , if you hold it upright the signal is much better, might be wrong but it's probally got to do with wave length or something.

Another thing with the router you can't see if it gets 619 errors, it just dosen't connect

I haven't taken the step of installing an external antenna yet - all I can say is that I had had no connection problems since switching to the router.

Seems I spoke to soon, the dreaded 619 returned at 14:00 and it took more than a hour of pounding the connect button untill there was a confirmed connection.

Is there any chance I can get onto a different APN, away from all the plebs ;-)

Firstly, try and Restore your Profile. Make sure it's set to 3G only. Don't allow GPRS.

If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the software for your modem.

Let me know if it helps?

3 Profiles-
VC 3G only
MTN 3G only
Virgin GPRS only

I think it is a cell breathing / capacity thing ............. VC will never admit that some towers are working at capacity. 100% capacity on a network could be viewed as financially beneficial, like hotel occupancy. Spare capacity on a network is equal to a "loss" as the stock in trade expires on p/millisecond basis.

RAS Error code 619

Does anyone know what this eror code means? I have been getting this error code saying mobile connection not possible (regardless of signal) more and more frequently lately and its driving me up the wall as it does it a good 7/8 times before I can make a connection.

VMC 9.2.1
Vista

Yep, I am having the same problem, since about Wednesday afternoon ...

From my experience and what i've read elsewhere, Error 619 is usually a traffic problem, possibly where the tower is too busy to handle any more connections.

Normally trying to reconnect a few times in succession solves the problem...though not all the time.

There are a kazillion posts on this forum on this topic. Also in the FAQ.

 Sounds like an issue Vodacom should be addressing. I did search for "error" and "619" and couldt find anyting relevant. Thanks though, will check the FAQ. BTW - it is usually followed by a error 31 too.

You can look at this way; Thousands of Vodacom people address this error everyday. ;)

619 is a generic code to say "I could not connect" and have a huge number of potential causes, including:

1) You don't have money in your account
2) You don't have the right settings
3) There is a problem with your phone / data card / pc
4) You don't have signal
5) There is a network problem
6) There is a system problem

I seem to remember (must check) that 31 is a device level error, so it could point to a driver / resource issue on your system.

Thanks IC and V3G for the feedback - I wouldnt be surprised about the driver issue - after all I am using Vista. Prob not a resource issue though as the laptop has a decent spec.

When you get the 31 error again, open up the device manager and see if you see any yellow exclamation marks next to any of the devices.

No, there doesnt appear to be any conflicts. And it just requires some persistence so doubting its a driver issue. I merely continue to click connect until it works. 619 and 31 seem to happen together ie: I either get both messages or neither.
