had a couple of chances that had they put away game could have been very different

polish defense is suspect though

Germany showed why they are one of the favourites. Poland never stood a chance.

Winners from Group A and B will only meet someone from group C/D in the final.
It also means a team can play another team twice before reaching the final.

what has changed?

the 2 yellow card rule change is a big plus. ie: after the quarters, all yellow cards are cancelled. This assuring that we see the best players in the final as long as they don't get red carded in the semis.

I wonder if this is also the case for future World Cups?

they should only ban you if you get like 5 yellow's by the semi's or something

im glad they have changed it but i think its harsh is someone gets yellow in quarters and yellow in semi's and miss the final

in big games like these its easy for defenders to pick up yellow cards or even any player for that matter

also i wanted to ask if anyone thought that challenge on nani the other night should have been red? in the prmier league im sure he would have walked

Imagine the feeling you pickup a 2nd yellow in the semis and then you miss the final...

The early games I noticed the refs were not so quick to dish out cards but cant remember the nani challenge off the top of my head.

Checking up on it - the same will apply for the World Cup
so an incident like Ballack missing the WC2002 final, won't be repeated. just dont get 2 yellows/red carded in the semis or you will land up like Blanc who missed the WC'98 final.

The nani incident was studs showing and bad in my eyes. Traore played the ball but the ref still gave the free kick - so what for then? maybe the ref saw the exact opposite (no studs no ball played no card given)

Looking forward to the Holland vs Italy game tonight. Two of my fav teams so tough to decide who I favour. I'd go with Italy. They have it in them to go all the way. Holland tend to self destruct.
