The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

I got 2 units from Maponya Mall last week. They were however not keen on selling without a contract though.

Yes. But the manager said they have limited stock so would prefer giving them out on contract as to prepaid. He was also aware that they could be used on other networks.

Hi guys..
Just wanted to let you know I've just purchased the B593 router.. connected to 60+60gb TM prepaid package and am very happy with the speeds..
Thanks so much for everyone's help (especially jcheek)!

OK, without reading all 37 pages of this thread, does anyone know where I can get the latest firmware for the B593s-601 Huawei router?

I am having some DHCP issues on my home network and hoping the firmware might fix the issue.

My Setup:

Huawei B593s-601 LTE wired to Trendnet TEW638APB AP

Using MACBOOK Pro, Air, Mini ...and more

When connecting to B593 all ok, when connecting to AP cannot obtain IP. It was working yesterday. This is now my 2nd AP as my new TP-Link had the same issue.

DHCP off on AP, B593 DHCP on with ip range 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.100. IP of AP 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.1.1, WEP security

If I manually configure IP on Mac to AP wifi, disable wifi and enable again it connects, as soon as I DHCP IP on Mac, no connection

I'm so frustrated.
Hi. you need to assign an IP adress to the AP, outside of the routers range, eg 192.168.1.101

Great news, espdesign! Glad you came right with the R1 499 special. It's a killer deal.

Thanks for the kind words, although most of the credit must go to Azimuth for having the foresight to start this thread (almost a year ago!) and to those folks who helped build it up to where it is now. Now we can all just piggyback on what's been learned and build the experience base even further.

In the interests of feedback, and to help other folks who might be contemplating the same move : what antennas are you using (built-in, or paddles, or ?), and what sort of speeds are you getting ?

hi there,

Just wanted to check - this Huawei B593 router from Telkom mobile at R1499 - is this the LTE one? Reason I ask is that their website does not show LTE. Also will one be able to use Cell C sim in this device?

Yes if you get the B593s-601 it will work with cell-c. To my knowledge all are LTE enabled but every sub units cater for different frequencies. The telkom one will sync on LTE using a telkom mobile sim that is LTE enabled and if u get LTE coverage where u are.

Yep, the B593's are all LTE-enabled (that's kinda the whole idea! :p )

Having said that - as yet Cell C have no LTE service offering, so it's hard to know for sure what frequency band, and what mode (FDD, or TDD) they're likely to use when and if they roll out LTE services. Provided the B593 sub-model you buy is compatible with Cell C's 3G frequencies, it will work on 3G, however I seem to recall that Cell C's HSPA+ network is on 900MHz, so you may be out of luck there with a B593s-601. Someone else will more than likely chip in here with more info.

Check this post for sub-model details and frequency band coverage.

Thanks jcheek.

Ok, just realized that Cell C have no LTE service as yet :wtf:
So best to go with the Telkom deal and get Telkom LTE sim and one of their prepaid data deals.

I have checked my area and LTE is available on Telkom network.

managed to get the B593 and using Telkom sim. Are they any settings I need to change when setting up?

Beyond creating the wifi name (SSID) and password, changing the admin password and connecting your devices to it? Nope. There are no special LTE settings or anything to mess with. Just setup the normal router stuff and away you go.
