Looks great, but I can't jailbreak my device. It's a corporate issue phone that connects to an encrypted VPN for emails and apps. So they can pickup when I try to jailbreak.
LOL what you mean the IP etc. of Cydia? why would they care? It's not illegal... You don't have to use Cydia through your encrypted VPN though, you can use it on 3G or your home WiFi to install stuff.. Or even download the package file and install it manually

Ja I get that you can use cydia whilst not on the VPN, the point is the jailbreak. Irrespective of what you intend to do with the jailbreak, legal or not. I work for a large multi-national pharma company, with sensitive info and emails on the device. They're worried about compromised security, so whenever a device is jailbroken, they wipe it remotely.

Wow... And they detect that, how?

App called Mobile Iron. It allows a company full control over your device, can remotely install or delete apps, OS, install security certificates, etc. And report general usage, track movements via the GPS. And wipe it.

Big Brother anyone......?

Wi.U

http://gizmodo.com/#!5785985/heres-a-wireless-iphone-battery-pack-that-you-can-program

Most battery-life extending pack tend to be brain dead, they automatically charge when they're the needed. The Wi.U is a bit different. You can set the date, time and percentage you want the charger to activate.

The battery is supposed to provide battery power for up to 3 days at a time, but when it does eventually run dry you can wirelessly charge it on Wi.U's charging pad. Sadly, it's a Kickstarter project for now, but if it does go to retail it'll go for at least $130

--How awesome is that though hey?

I started this thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/322133-what-DOESNT-your-iPhone-do-well

and plenty of things are coming up, so its good.

one thing I noticed when I was using the iPhone 4 was the small little text box when typing a txt. that seemed a bit annoying. im the kind of person that likes to re-read the txt before I send it.

does this bother anyone else?

another thing raised was that iPhone 4 doesnt have widgets to turn things on and off at all. But after looking at http://thebigboss.org/why-jailbreak-iphone it would appear this is more than possible once the phone is jailbroken.

thoughts?

The box gets bigger as you type more / or do breaks.

Yip I can turn everything on/off with a swipe and a tap. All the connectivity options (Edge, 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth), location services, brightness, auto rotation, and more. So customisable. Droid users like to think their phones are more customisable...

dude thanks for that, I really appreciate it.

looks like you've done some nice customisation there.... jailbreak I assume?
Yeah. TY.

I have a rooted Desire too and trust me when I tell you jailbreaking an iPhone is significantly easier than rooting an Android. Having said that Android out of the box allows for far more customization than the iPhone. You can do pretty much nothing in terms of customizing the iPhone's UI without JB. The iPhone generally is just easier to use, less cluttered, less complicated, fewer settings and options, fewer key presses to perform mundane tasks, little to no lag. If you want to delve deeper into the iPhone's programming and code you can but it's not necessary.

I find Android and the Desire a little more complicated possibly cause I've never worked with Linux. It's not as intuitive to work with, both the phone and when scratching below the surface. Rooting and creating a gold card and all the other niceties that comes with the Android OS is not for me. It can be quite laborious setting up the 7 home screens at your disposal and who on earth needs 7 in any event. It's just the way they've created their UI but for me it doesn't make sense. (pun intended). There's a plethora of options and settings available. Some enjoy that. To me it's unnecessary clutter.

I find with all the electronic gadgets we use so much time is spent tweaking and configuring and upgrading and updating. The iPhone is a product that is incredibly user friendly, accurate, intuitive and competent out the box. If you have the time and you want to spend hours tweaking and customizing it that option is available or alternatively you can enjoy it the way the developers intended it to be enjoyed and trust me you want be disappointed.

I've been thinking about my problem...

Would it be possible, hypothetically, say to take the sim card out and delete the MobileIron app and loaded security certificates to prevent any communication between my device and the company VPN. Then jailbreak to load the MyProfile and TomTom apps, the only ones that I really want and can't get legally...Once they are loaded on the device I will upgrade from 4.2 to 4.3.1 effectively removing the JB. Will the apps still be on the device? Because if so then I can just re-install MobileIron which will re-instate all the security features but the apps I want will be on the device already?

Possible or not?

Not.. Once you upgrade, the jailbreak is removed as you said, and any jailbroken apps, including any "non-purchased" iTunes apps will get removed as far as i know.. In order for the non-purchased iTunes apps to sync to the device it needs to be jailbroken, and AppSync installed. So once you upgrade, AppSync is no longer installed
