I have chatted to a guy on the technical helpdesk as MTN, and he says as far as he knows mms doesn't work on the iPhone with MTN yet. Is there anyone on MTN that has Swirly working? Please help!!!!

I can confirm i have the same problem. It used to happen on my KJAM as well, so, it does look like a vodacom thing, or perhaps the SIM card. Mines around 7 years old now.

Whatever it is it sucks :( wish voda would fix it

Also, about that Teapot - it looks like one of the standard primitives in 3D Studio Max. Do know why they've used that though?

I think theyre just demonstrating the capabilities of the iPhone and showing that we will be able to run 3d applications/games on it :)

Hi again,

Just an update. I now have Swirly working on MTN, sort-of! It is extremely strange. Sometimes it works, others it doesnt. But it gives me most hassles in my house! Sent an mms while driving (my husband was driving), and it sent fine, back at home, no such luck. And I received a sms, just have to figure out how to view it now. So, the settings I have are as follows :

MMSC : mms.mtn.co.za/mms/wapenc
Proxy : 196.11.240.241:8080
APN : internet

Please let me know if anyone else gets it to work.

Thanks

You have to set permission on the aplication... Do you know how to SSH into your iPhone?

If so, in Windows - use putty, in mac - terminal, and exeute the following commands:

cd /Applications
chmod +s SwirlyMMS.app/SwirlyMMS
chown -R root:wheel SwirlyMMS.app/SwirlyMMS

After u install summerboard and u download themes , they should be under the summerboard themes tab right? cause mine aint.

firmware 1.1.4 btw.
Add repo.ispazio.net to your sources.
Install "1.1.4 SummerBoard Patch".
Install SummerBoard.
Uninstall the patch.

It works!

Hi all, I think I now finally have Swirly working fine on MTN, thanks for all the help. Seems the phone didn't connect to Edge properly.

Have now upgraded to 1.1.4, but have trouble with getting SMSD working, closes on startup. I have read that I have to change the permissions. I have v0.2.1 on the phone, but downloaded v0.2.2 to my PC. Please help me.... how do I get it on my phone??? I have no idea how SSH works. Can someone please explain, or refer me to a site to explain. Would be much appreciated.

Thanks

OK SSH means that you can wirelessly log into your iPhone and browse its hard drive contents and install new stuff etc from your iPhone

You will need wireless in your house i.e A wireless access point, router etc. Without this it will not work

Firstly you will need an SCP client like WinSCP (http://winscp.net/) for Windows or simply terminal for Mac which comes pre-installed on the Mac

If you have this, go ahead and click on the arrow next to your wireless network in the network settings of your iPhone (>) and take note of the IP Address

Now enter the IP address in WinSCP under host name/address

Username : root
Password: alpine

You should now see your hard disks contents..

And thats SSH for you

If you have a Mac let me know cos i have a much easier method

Let me know if you get this far so i can explain the next steps ;)

Also check this link for a tutorial - http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/showthread.php?p=416291

But if i were you id wait till a stable 1.1.4 release of SMSD comes out...shouldnt take too long ;)

Hi, me.....again. Our WiFi has been setup with some or another secure settings (IP addresses etc). I have to use these to setup my WiFi connection to the phone. When I type that IP address in as the host, I get 'Network Error. Cannot assign requested address.'

Which tool did you use to jailbreak/unlock your phone? You may need to install "OpenSSH" from installer first and then try again

Also look in the router settings of your WiFi and try and disable those settings to see if they are causing the problems. Which Wifi router are you using?

I used Ziphone 2.6b to jailbreak the phone. Have installed OpenSSH, and am using Services to ensure it is on. Re the router settings, I have no idea how to do that! Its a Mecer.

Well find out the IP address of your Wifi router by going to start, run, cmd, then ipconfig /all

Look for your network adaptor and look for the defualt gateway - should be something like 10.0.0.2 or 192.168.0.1 or something along those lines

Then type that IP address in Internet Explorer, log in to the router and change settings accordingly

I have the default gateway address, and typed it in internet explorer. Of course now I need a username and password which I guess only our IT guy would know. I do know the Subnet Mask / Router and DNS details. Will that help or does it have to be deactivated?

Thanks again

No these wont help you get into the router...

Hmm try admin as username and password..

or admin as username, administrator as password

Sorry i cant help more, its hard to assist with these local brands of wireless routers... i use belkin and it works fine for me

But if you cant get it to work, just wait for the next version of SMSD - wont be too long before someone comes up with a new version ;)
