To set APN on latest firmware(2.1)
Go settings> general> network> cellular data network> set the APN as "internet".

To make the most of the iPhone it's best to get a U.S iTunes store account, It's possible to create a free one but if you want to buy stuff you need a gift certificate, I sold my last certificate sorry.

With you, got the phone and do not know what to do with it. Tried the Itune thing, with minimum success. Will ask a friend to help. So kan 'n man nie sukkel nie
People who haver never used an iPod before will struggle unfortunately since the target market has always been iPod users.

Thanks for the help, I did download #8, I think that must spend some quality time with the new addition to the household.

had mine for about 2 weeks now, and I've had a 2G for the past year on MTN. I have to say that all the call dropping and call failure issues i had in the past have disappeared. Yesterday was the first time I had major issues though, dropped a call about 7 times in 10 mins (very annoying). Also, the phone seems to get a bit confused when switching from EDGE to 3G which sometimes results in a "No service" message, but fixes itself after a few seconds.

I got my iPhone 3G yesterday from Dion Wired. I must say, no one knows anything about this phone, I got 3 conflicting stories from 3 different people about whether it was network locked or not. Its not, and my MTN card is in the phone.

However, the phone goes from full coverage, to 2 bars to NO SERVICE and then stays that way till I switch it off and on again.

Anyone experiencing anything similar? Faulty phone?

Update to the latest firmware using iTunes, fixes reception issues.

I have already. Itunes says it is software version 2.1. I think it is as it switches from 3g to edge.

First step is to change the APN to "internet" (without quotation marks), reboot phone and then it works fine. And yes, update to latest firmware, makes the phone quite a bite more stable...

If I switch on 3G coverage drops. And I am in middle of Durban, not on the fringes. I have made the APN change, will see how it goes.

You can jailbreak your iPhone using quickpawn this will add installer and Cydia app stores filled with apps, games and utilities for your iPhone. There used to be an app to monitor resources not sure if it's still available on cydia or installer.

Spore you can buy from Apple's US appstore, you can create a US account load it with a gift certificate and buy apps. I think I might be able to buy one more certificate if you want one.
