OK, might be true, because I haven't owned all the phones out there, but the only phone I had which could "learn" afrikaans was my Motorola Razr V3. cool phone but crap OS.

Hey, my N95 has speech recognition which can apparently be taught to speak with an accent..... believe it or not!

When you use voice dial it remembers your voice and then alters the way it says the name when it reads it out when your phone rings. I have heard stories of the N95 picking up an Irish accent! Now THAT is a great phone!!!!

I think Game is the "cheap" store out of the 2. Maybe they cater for a different market.

Spore you can buy from Apple's US appstore, you can create a US account load it with a gift certificate and buy apps. I think I might be able to buy one more certificate if you want one.

Okay then... so does anyone know why the Games category is completely missing from the SA iTunes store?

What are they doing!? Games are a big part of the marketing pitch for iPhone, I mean FFS "Texas Holdem" and "Super Monkey Ball" are on the main SA page: http://www.apple.com/za/iphone/

/me goes looking for an Apple support mail address...

I agree, it makes no sense why they allow some apps and not all.

I'm sure Apple will make sure the SA iStore becomes fully operational soon. They want our money & we want their music and apps. :)

fully operational soon

I hope so, but if how long it took iPhone to be released here is anything to go by (and considering the SA app store's been there since June in it's current state), I'll be long dead by the time it happens. :D

That said, they don't exactly make it difficult to just sign up for a US one. I'm completely overwhelmed by all the choice, it's INSANE. I wish I'd found this earler in the weekend. Never mind all the free stuff, if you want you can buy gift certificates and just make US purchases - http://ituneshop.net/ seems fairly legit. If I have cause to buy anything, I'll give them a go and report back.

F* YEAH!!11! IPHONE SABER!

Ha ha ha shame you poor man you have never heard of predictive text?!?! I bet I could type a message quicker with predictive text than you on your virtual keyboard.... and further I bet I could do it without looking at my keys.... can you?

Nope. I spend most of my day actually talking to people "in real life" ;-P

Yeah I turned it off because most of my messages are in Afrikaans bro.

There are still some of us Affie's around in SA you know :)

Same here. I actually heard a story where some guy wanted to send a message in Croatian (or something) to a grieving family member on his iPhone and the predictive text changed one of the word which meant he send a message to his relative which read something like "I'm glad for your loss" instead of "I'm sorry for your loss"....whoops!

Very nice.

I'll be honest though my Dad has asked me for advice on an upgrade and I have said that he should look at some of the new nokia's because the iPhone lacks a few features he may want but since he has seen and played with my iPhone he wants a iPhone3G badly, I can't convince him not to get one :D

Let's not go there indeed :)

Genius is rather nice but I don't like having to send everything in my library(especially new media I add) to Apple to make use of it.:(

have you ever considered that Rendier might be typing most of his sms's in Afrikaans? as you probably know most cellphones don't have T9 dictionaries for Afrikaans. (I've never seen one!)

A very good point.

There is always a need for a person to play devils advocate.:p
If you are not considering the other side of the story you wont have the complete picture.

Having said that if you need to type a sms while not looking at the keys you are not paying attention to something else. If this means paying attention to one thing and one thing only I would consider it a price worth paying

Had a look at the iPhone 3G yesterday at the V&A iStore. I really want it but one feature that I need, GPS/Maps, doesn't work. The shop assistant actually said: "If you want mapping, get a Garmin"! And, of course already annoying is the lack of a local online support for iTunes. Are Vodacom and Core seriously committed? Or just opportunist?

The 3G iPhone has GPS triangulation, there is already a full GPS app in development - just check the iStore or Google it.

Mind you, Google maps on the iPhone is good enough for me. :)
