The Official 3G Iphone Thread

Mine is on 2.1 with 700 contacts, most with at least 5 fields used, and it is near instantaneous

Has anyone got any further info on using it with MTN?
What does and what doesn't work, and any hassles activating it?
Also worried about that warranty issue. If it has only a year warranty and then you are SOL, that is a big problem for me.

Rexton, can you tell me more about this? Who did you speak to? I thought that it is possible to unlock any phone now via iTunes, is this not the case?

iphones bought in the usa are locked on at&t and at this stage cant be unlocked onto vodacom

So they were taking b*** then? no surprise. Like I said a carrier can only unlock a phone with the assigned model number.

These are the only model numbers Vodacom can legally unlock.

MB496SO/A
MB500SO/A

You can view which carrier owns which model here.

MXIT

Dose anyone here know how to make apps for iPhone 3G or get Java on it to run mxit. Here is a link for the mbooster or alchemo app, but im not sure how it works. I am willing to pay R500 if someone makes the app for the phone.
And i tried he gtalk thing, it works but its sends blank messages to contacts constantly.
Thanks

Hey guys,

Planning to jailbreak my iphone, just wondering if anyone can point me to where I can download 3rd party apps for it, and which ones I should get? Definitely looking at at NES emulator.

Also, can I set my songs as ringtones once I jailbreak it>

you can make ringtones of your songs easily.

just export less than 30 secs of a song in itunes and then rename it as .m4r

use itunes, 'get info' on the song, then under options choose the 30 secs that you would like using start and end time.
Close the dialog and right click on the song, choose export selection.
it will then ask for a path. save it and then go and rename the file to type .m4r
then you just add file to itunes and choose that new file.

you will need to go back to the original song and clear the selection times or it just plays the selection.

Thanks dude! :)

One more question - does the song have to be an AAC file or is an MP3 also fine?

nope this isn't working.

1. get info > options > choose 30 secs of song
2. right click > export selections (this is were the problem starts, cant find this export option under right click)

so I chose a short clip I already had renamed to m4r > add to library > song appears under songs not under ringtones

please help as iringer is for Windows not Mac
