the Wine (Windows under Linux) thread

Don't know if anyone will reply, but is wine available to download locally?
Which FTP will i find it on... thanks

It should be in the repo's, there is a local mirror for the repo's.

Yeah, that's correct. some ftp sites host it independently, others only have it in the repositories where it should be.

Try using the CentOS package manager - or look for the CentOS forums and ask for help there.

After a week and a half of fighting, crying, banging my head on the desk, giving up, trying again, giving up again, reading forums, re-reading forums, posting on forums and then randomly copying files all over the place I managed to get Dota (War 3: TFT 1.22) working on Twilight. :D

Wine FTW (after a week and a half).

I did try some of the Office apps on Wine but to be honest, I found them to be buggy.

Anyone having problems playing games under Wine?

I can't seem to get WIII working again on Wine, Ubuntu... I just get a black screen... Then I need to log out and back in :D

Haven't personally done it, but have seen it work... Your full specs (especialy graphics card) ?

What version of wine are you using? Have you checked the forums for a problem that matches yours?

Nope. Mine works fine....
Have you tried reinstalling it? Remove it completely and reinstall it from scratch.

@Lord-Nikon: What version are you running? Mine stopped working when I upgraded everything on my laptop without looking to see wine was included. From my experience, War3 1.22 does not work from version 0.9.46 onwards.

On version 0.9.45 which does work, I experienced the black screen syndrome as well and this was caused by two issues.

1. Delete rename your movies folder.
2. Make sure that you have the following four files in your War3 directory. They came with patch War3TFT_122a_English.exe, and not with just the 122 patch. Installing the visual C++ 2005 crap for Wine didnt seem to work for me, and only the DLLs out of this patch fixed it. I can mail them to you if you want.

msvcm80.dll
msvcp80.dll
msvcr80.dll
Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest

Lastly my sound has never worked for War3, but because I dont play with sound (possibly why I'm so n00b @ dota), it never bugged me.
