This is the Telkom LIT Android media box

Thanx voodoo, fixed it but ja struggling to decide if i should get the lit box or the mi box now that its being sold locally

Built for purpose Android TV is always going to beat plain Android I reckon.
 
That the things, its a mi box which is android tv so in my mind the lit should be similar but it seems that there are issues. Could the lit be the case of "goedkoop koop ia duur koop"

I am also now sitting on the fence.
 
Just picked up mine , so doing setup and getting all apps installed.
1. Not AAA batteries included on air remote - had to repurpose batteries from another remote.
2. Netflix App complains about compatibility -> will follow netflix APK guide for this error and check.
3. Plex works 100% -> playing theme music is damn load disabeling that option of plex server
4. Show max works -> still crap selection

setup was easy took 15min , not my kid is watching some cartoons , so have to wait for him lol.

yes got it as cash deal at Telkom shop today - has android 7.1.2 security update 1 August 2017

Does Showmax and DSTVNow both work?

Which store did you get it from?
 
showmax seems to work , DSTV app not available on device - will be side loading it abit later to test
same for super sport.

Mobdro and terrarium work perfectly.
Netflix side load works streams at 1080p - i don't have 4k TV so can't test higher res. doesn't add icon on home screen have to open via Apps in settings.

mosty app issue with device , but device seems rock solid for the price.
got it at Telkom shop in Springs Mall.

Do you perhaps have a surround sound system capable of playing HD audio?

Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.tv.sideloadlauncher&hl=en play store, it will show all the apps you sideloaded and you will be able to open them from there as well
 
On my unit, using Plex and optical - it didn't play a 5.1 track (passthrough or not)

I'd try HDMI hopefully tomorrow night, but he may have tried already
