Any ideas on how to get seemless sync with Mozilla Thunderbird?

For contacts:
Install the zindus addon to sync with google: http://www.zindus.com/faq-thunderbird-google/

For calendar, install Lightning and Provider for Google Calendar:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2313
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/4631

That gives you Thunderbird <==> Google sync.

Then use Google's Google <==> BB sync
