No issues so far on a Dell Studio 1537 with GM45 chipset, Core 2 Duo T5800, Intel 4500MHD graphics and Dell Wireless adapter.

Wonder if this is happening to anyone of you: My screen will start to blink every 30s or so. As if it's...blinking at me? It will blink once (goes black and come back on but so quick that it looks like a blink) and then it will wait 30 odd seconds or so and then it will blink again! I've told it numerous times that I don't play that game and I'm not swinging that way so he can forget about making eyes at me, but without success! What could be the problem? Do you think it's driver related or does my PC have a stupid crush on me?

Is it an external monitor on a laptop ?

Just was asking because of the various sound problems and so on I have heard. :) thanks.

No, it's a normal Laptop monitor... I however have pinpoint WHEN it starts blinking at me... Every time I use a flash application on the web it would start blinking at me :D

I can't believe they released KDE4.1 as part of the only release of 8.10. They had to make another KDE4 remix. It is so not ready for it to be included with Kubuntu. I love KDE, don't get my wrong, but 8.10 is not practical at all, it just looks nice. What must first time users of Kubuntu think when they try out 8.10 if i find it impractical and I have been using Linux for more than a year.

Yeah KDE 4.1 made me switch back to gnome, so now I'll stick with ubuntu releases until kubuntu with KDE4 is up to KDE3 standards.

Just out of interest what are the problems people here are facing with KDE4.1 when comparing to 3.5 ?

Me too, but I'll stick with KDE 3.5 until then. Well web, the lack of certain applications, like disks and filesystems.

I am not a ubuntu/kbuntu user I use Mandriva I do have the lastest Kbuntu 8.10 installed on my old laptop here too. What I have noticed is that if I compare the two distros it seems that kbuntu just hasn't done a thorough job in integrating 4.1. I have a few small issues still with my Mandriva running 4.1.3 but now they are down to cosmetic "issues". The one problem I have always found with kubuntu is that its control center was always to integrated into kde's control center were Mandriva has its own standalone control center. Anyway thats just my opinion which as my better half sometimes tells me is worth nothing :D

I must say KDE4 drove me to stick with Gnome, so until they get their act together.

I upgraded to Kubuntu 8.10 last Monday and must say that there's not too much that hassles me with KDE4. The one thing that does irritate me is that when it starts up, it starts in the highest screen resolution possible and I have to go into the display applet to set it to the res that I want (talking about that applet, there's also no way that you can change the size of the middle window, making it difficult to read the resolutions).

One thing I found (but this is kernel related, so not related to KDE4) was that you have to uninstall and reinstall virtualbox as it needs to be recompiled to work with dkms.

I haven't had any issues with what you've mentioned above.

Kubuntu is a poor implementation of KDE. I think OpenSUSE has a much better implementation.

I'm warming to XFCE now, the panel is a bit buggy though and will sometimes disappear when switching themes.
