Hey guys, how is everyone doing?

I recently did a complete format of my drive and replaced Win7 with Ubuntu 11.10. Problem is that it all forms part of a campus network, and I am having trouble setting up my proxies in order to use the software manager. My browser and chat clients work fine, there is no problem there.

tl;dr

1) Fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10
2) Proxy settings are missing or are not working.
3) Connected to a campus network.
4) Can't seem to get the software center working/
5) Help?

I appreciate any advice in advance...

:)

sudo gedit /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/02proxy

And type

Acquire::http::Proxy "http://yourusername:yourpassword@yourproxy:yourport";

Save & sorted.

Thats how I do it in Mint, should work for Ubuntu as well.

Other option. Open Synaptic Package manager, and go Settings -> Preferences -> Network and configure proxy settings.

Personally I prefer Elimentals method, but this is the less "Difficult" version.

Thanks to both you guys,

Jea i was looking for Elimentals method because for some reason synaptic package manager didn't come with the installation. i tried downloading a tar file and building it but im so new to this stuff it kinda breaks my soul, but im trying.

thanks again guise

Why download a tar file when you can simply down a .deb file and double click on it to install it. People new to linux sometimes do it the hard way because they don't know any better. Eventually you will learn little paddawan :D

Searching for synaptic at http://packages.ubuntu.com/ will give you the package & all dependencies but it would be far easier to just get the proxy sorted out.

You will get the hang of things, just be patient :)
