Uncapped ADSL bundle pricing compared (June 2012)

Is Afrihost still throttling uncapped at 20 gig?

If that's the case I'll stick with mweb.

It is my impression that throttling starts at 30 gig and after 40 gig you can just as well give up.

Or the moment that your rolling 10 day average exceeds 1gig per day.

In all seriousness throttling seems to start at 30 gig and after 40 gig you can just as well give up.

I have moved the following traffic, amongst others, on a 4mbps Afrihost uncapped account. Draw your own conclusions. Daily totals.

Date : Download (MB) : Upload (MB): Total (MB)
15-05-12: 16324.023 : 437.064 : 16761.087
18-05-12: 27366.167 : 656.412 : 28022.578
21-05-12: 25198.516 : 841.9 : 26040.416
25-05-12: 8957.687 : 255.615 : 9213.303
02-06-12: 14651.62: 404.348: 15055.968
03-06-12: 12753.176: 350.992: 13104.168
04-06-12: 15603.398: 326.017: 15929.415
05-06-12: 16420.965: 344.235: 16765.199
06-06-12: 13544.334: 391.922: 13936.256
07-06-12: 14807.083: 363.316: 15170.399

My daily average is approaching 10GB. I am now on the 10mbps account though as of 6 June.

Why is Openweb always omitted from the comparison tables? Their rates are very competive for example they are only R2 more expensive on the 10mbps package. Most important, even though they shape they DON'T throttle and they don't hijack your Telkom line. Couple that with good customer service and you have a winner. Openweb all the way! Keoma should complain about the way they are always neglected!

Chill, dude.

The article specified ISPs who offer all-in-one (lines + data) bundles.

OpenWeb only does data.

thanks for the info.

I am impressed. I am on a 1mb line and found that torrents slow down to 5 to 6 kb/s after I have downloaded between 2 and 3 gig for two or three days in a row, and only pick up to about 50 kb/s after midnight.

Not wanting to intrude on business client's needs, I normally only start torrents after 5 in the afternoon and experience good speed between 5 and 7 and then a slow down to about 10-11, where after it picks up again.

If I kept usage low for some time, and then suddenly torrent it runs at up to 103 kb/s even in day light time.

Oh, and the next important comparison that would be nice to do is to compare fair use policies to make sure we are comparing apples with apples. Afrihost may be cheaper but if they are going to start throttling me at ***MB while MWeb allows me to do whatever I am capable of, then they are not like for like accounts.

yeah my afrihost uncapped experience sucked. throttling at 20gigs was ridiculous. i still say no thanks Afrihost! im not falling for that again!i'll pay the extra bucks with mweb for better quality. and im also waiting for the 2 meg uncapped prices to come out ;)

Just to give you guys an idea, we are the first to admit that when we first got into the Uncapped market, we didn't offer the best possible product. But we've completely changed how these accounts work, whilst still maintaining some of the best pricing on the market. Depending on which line you're on, you'll be able to download a lot more data before throttling, and we also don't drop the speed below an acceptable level (the lowest is 320kbps on a 394kbps line).

None of our accounts would now be throttled at 20GB. If you'd like some more info for your specific line speed, then please PM me.

:)

Unfortunately many consumers had a bad experience with Afrihost's first uncapped offerings, including myself. It does dent consumer confidence. However, I trust Gian when he says that they have now improved their accounts significantly. In all fairness, they should therefore not be judge on their past experience but with the current experience. I saw posts where people were quite impressed.

are these accounts limited to a certain number of accounts? what is pricing for data only?

We haven't put a limit on the bundled accounts, but we may decided to change the pricing if we sell too many too fast. And there has been massive interest and sign-ups so far. Our only criteria is to maintain the high quality of the product and the client's experience, so we don't want to compromise that by taking on too many signups. For now, there is still room for a few more.

I see Cybersmart are offering 1mb uncapped all in @ R375!!! Cybersmart have updated their prices.
