Uncapped ADSL: How much data are you allowed to use?

Do you think a ‘Fair Use Policy’ on uncapped broadband services is a good thing?

Does anyone know iflive tv services will be shaped too, like youtube, kuduclub etc?

By definition the service is not capped. Unless by putting "capped" in quotes you intende to use a completely different word with a completely different meaning.

You sir are a true South African, you've been shafted for so long now it doesn't take much to get you excited. Take your capped package, but please for the love of progression don't try call it uncapped. It's simply not.
 
I'm going to call anyone out who thinks that going from 3gig a month to 300+ gig a month for the same price is nothing to get upset about.

This is huge. These companies are selling capacity at a loss. Only people who don't understand economics could say that this product is bad for consumers.

Nobody is disputing that. I don't recall anyone in this thread or any of the others saying it is a bad product. We only had an issue with the naming of it. But yes, at the end of the day... it is not a huge issue. Simply one of honest description. I can still see lots of people being very happy with this. We never disputed that... in fact we went out of our way to praise the launching of it.

I wouldn't be able to comment on your statement about them running the offering at loss, I don't pretend to know their costs nor have access to their books. I also won't make the assumption that what I feel is a good deal applies to everyone across the board. That said, again I say market the product for what it is; as a consumer rolling over is only going to set a precedent.
 
I'm all for fighting as a consumer, but I also believe that when a company does something as revolutionary and consumer-centric as MWEB have done they deserve serious praise.
 
I think we are going to need to differentiate in future between 384k, 512k and 4Mb services. According to all the arguments the ISPs are fully entitled sell the two former offerings as uncapped as you are unlikely to ever fall foul of their "fair use policies"......

So they'll just need to just come up with a name for the 4Mb offering to satisfy the nit pickers on here. Let's call it "4Mb Fair Use ADSL"! Of course all the ISPs will need to do this at the same time otherwise the uninformed will assume that one company's offering differs from another.

EDIT : Or even better let's just call it "4Mb AUP ADSL" -that will make it so much clearer to the man on the street :)

AUP's exist for every ISP's uncapped service, and MWeb's is a good example of a completely acceptable policy that can be called uncapped. I'm happy with theirs, possibly not Imagine/IS's "Home" uncapped deal, but I'm not terribly worried either. It's really not as big an issue as some people are making it out to be. Just enjoy Mweb/Afrihost's uncapped and you'll have to try quite hard to actually be affected by the AUP, which you'd deserve in my opinion.

I think Gary summed it up pretty well, we're on different pages. Kudo's for the package and them, I'm arguing over the uncapped term that they sell it as.

and some people get it thinking it is really uncapped, only to find @ 200 GB there is some kind of dynamic limit. That my fellow fourm member is misleading advertising.

are the IS express accounts from axxess/openweb "uncapped"?
even though they are throttled between 8am and 8pm on workdays? (i.e. they have a limit, and uncapped=unlimited)
why then are we only getting worked up now with these new "uncapped" accounts?

There is no download limit mentioned and no threat of disconnection. You can use them as much as you want to download whatever you want.

I felt exactly the same way and was told I needed to ask for a refund of my school fees... I eagerly await the insult directed at you.

Clearly Gary keeps missing the part which says "complete termination of service to customers who grossly abuse the network through improper or excessive usage".

+1 I reckon it's a good deal but I REFUSE to accept that it is uncapped, you CAN NOT call this uncapped unlike products some of other ISP's out there offer.
