Uncapped ADSL: How much data are you allowed to use?

Defective, the advertised product does not meet the specifications. If I buy a box of cereal that says 1 Kg, but when I measure it it is only 400 grams. It is defective. Not to mention disingenuous.

Considering that is uncapped I am more than happy to buy the service.

They advertise an uncapped product with acceptable use provisions.

Ponder, I've proved in a previous post that they are using plain clearly defined words. Their service is uncapped.

As for being a fool, MWEB are being clear and transparent about what the service does and it suits my needs and wallet. (As it probably does for most of the people out there.) What is so foolish about that? If my needs one day outgrow the service and I can afford it I'll upgrade. If your needs already do I'll suggest looking at a different product.

Please ISPs, change the wording already.

As pointed out by many, "Uncapped" products are sold at a higher price and these latest products must not be allowed to claim the title, "Uncapped", if there are any AUPs attached to services.

Here is a dictionary definition of capped :

By definition the service is not capped. Unless by putting "capped" in quotes you intende to use a completely different word with a completely different meaning.

As explained before....yes technically they are not capping you. they suspend your service. this might be the loophole they are using.
capped = you have the service but cannot use it.
uncapped = no limits whatsoever
suspended = you are @#$%$@!
 
It's indeterminately capped. It's not uncapped.

The indeterminate bit is the problem, since the payment amount is most certainly determinate.
 
Fair enough. I was just looking at the definition of "capped" which does not use the term "restriction", just the "maximum limit"

And drukkie, I aam defending them because they have singlehandedly massacred the old model of 3gig hard caps, making a reasonable internet model to millions of people who otherwise would not or could not afford it. It's taken less than a week for people to start trying to tear a company down for bringing about the revolution which has had the biggest impact since Telkom first started offering ADSL. Last week we were getting 3gig for R300 today we are getting 300+gig for that.

I think we have all made our points and we understand where each other is coming from. Now all that remains is to see is what happens in the next few months. If people are able to use the service unrestricted then we can agree that it is uncapped. But if people start getting booted of the network, then we can file our complaint with the ASASA for false advertising.
 
The word "Uncapped" can easily be kept for 384 and 512k lines, since they will never pose a risk of using "100's" of gigs, thus allowing ISPs to state that the Fair usage part of the T&Cs do not apply to 384k and 512k.

The 4meg services cannot be called uncapped, unless the AUP makes no mention of the amount of throughput a client is allowed.

Unfortunately that is not enough. You cannot mislabel a product and then hope to get away with it by putting a little asterisk next to it.
 
All those car manufacturers offering cars for R1500.00 a month beg to differ.

But back on topic I still think that an acceptable use policy is a good thing for 99.9% of the people on their network.

I see afrihost took away the 100gb limit...now they must define "100s" LOL
look if i can get 150GB I'm happy...hopefully i can get that with mweb, if not i will change.
I also don't want ISP's disconnecting as they please....if i want to download at 2:00 in the morning, that's what i want to do.
I will not download 24/7, 5 GB I can do in 5 hours. I'm more than happy to do that after hours but if you disconnect me i will run 24/7 to get my slice :)
