Uncapped ADSL: How much data are you allowed to use?

Ag but don't have problems with 200gigs caps.

The MyBB staff writer needs to ensure he keeps up with the swift changes in the ISP market. The T&Cs now say :

We reserve the right to investigate and possibly terminate any account that moves 100s of GBs per month.

If everyone sticks below the "fair usage limit" then we will all experience good speeds. I see nothing wrong with them being honest about what that number is.

I would even go further than this. Telkom is still taking the largest slice of the pie, and frankly i'm extremely impressed with how much isps are doing with the little they have been given. I've come to the conclusion they have taken it far enough, and all pressure going forward should be directed at telkom's extremely high ipc costs.

MWEB CEO Rudi Jansen explains that they are planning to keep their service completely uncapped and unshaped as far as possible. Jansen made it clear that there will be no port prioritization, no shaping, no throttling and no capping on the service for the most part, and that shaping may only kick in during very busy periods to ensure good service levels for the user base as a whole.

This is all lies... MS updates are slow, mail is slow, news servers is slow (astraweb with ssl), https and http is slow, international is slow.

now please tell me how this services is not shaped or being throttled??
 
I think it's fair what the ISP's are doing. People that "need" 100GB per month "need" help.

While I am happy about how cheap ADSL data is getting now I am still left wondering "what took them so long?". SEACOM has been here for ages. Why has it taken this long for us to see price reductions? Why wasn't this done six months ago or more?

100 Gb a month is nothing. If that is all you can do, then you are an internet n00b. Don't be afraid of the internet.

There is nothing wrong with them needing that much. Its possible to use that much quite easily with HD content. But if you want to use 100's of gigs you should pay a more.

Exactly - and they are probably abusing the system by downloading illegal content. I fully agree with the suggested policies, it's only fair (after all)
 
This is really cool, but can we really call these accounts "UNCAPPED" ???? Should some clever guy not think of a new name........ ?

A 4meg uncapped connection from Axxess is in the region of R1500 including line rental. What tends to happen is groups of friends or colleagues get together and share the account with a point person downloading each persons data. A month's downloads will be in the region of 600-800gbs and each person's cost is about R250 - R350 for a 150-200gb slice.

Bring in a 200gb service for R350 including line rental and I doubt a single person will reach their threshold.

R1000 for a 200gb 4 meg service is still too expensive but Telkom are obviously to blame for that.
 
I have to be honest - this whole 'Fair Usage Policy' thing doesn't really bug me. I mean unless you are a hoarder and you just download for the sake of downloading, restrictions aren't that bad. As long as the ISPs don't begin capping accounts that have exceeded the data determined in the policy, I think this will all work out ok. If users want to hog the bandwidth then they must be cut off from the network. They aren't paying more than the next person on the same offering, so why should the use it anymore outside of 'Fair Usage'.
 
Pfft, it’s called propaganda....

Uncapped is internet without limits, whether or not you affect the next person.

nonetheless 100 GB for these prices are cheap.
