Vodacom Data SMS's getting irritating, REALLY irritating

Had a customer here this morning that complained that she is getting these data SMSs, driving her crazy she said and showed me. She is on myMeg 500 and it is only the 4th of the month? I tried to look on Vodacom4Me for her data balance but it proved to be impossible to log on since the site is so slow. At least the SMSC is operating at peak performance, churning out these SMSe

And I'm still getting these ridiculous sms's. VD, is anyone loking at this? Are they any closer to a fix? Considering the number of people affected, I would have thought this wojld be fairly high priority issue.

This is part of the customer care system, according to a Vodacom insider a "non-critical system"

VodacomData, is there any progress on this at all? Not only am I getting random, incorrect, irritating sms's, I also have to manually keep checking my bundle status because I can't trust the notifications I do get. Would you please respond?

YES Please VodacomData,
Can we get an update?

These SMS's are driving me INSANE!

Hi Cath

I have escalated this to our Geneva billing team and requested for feedback regarding the notifications for you.

This is first time I have received these messages this month. I purchased a 20MB pre-paid data bundle for my mobile on 2009/12/05.

On 2009/12/09 at 02:47 I received the following:
You Only have 4000 KB left before costs will be deducted from your call account.

On 2009/12/09 at 03:44 I received the following:
Costs are now being deducted from your call account.

This morning I checked *111#,1,6 and it shows:
You have 18.57 MB available to use.Your data bundle will expire on 20100201.

@VD: What do the people affected by this need to do?

You can try and opt out of receiving bundle reminders. It worked for me until I bought a new bundle. Vodacom seems to have it's head in the sand over this, hoping it will go away. It seems everyone is talking about it and the shops are getting nagged by customers coming in to complain.

Use ALTNUM to send these SMSes back where they are coming from.

That is a great way to stop those messages! More detailed instructions:

If you wish to receive your SMS notifications on another SIM card in another device such as a cellphone, simply send an SMS from the Vodafone Mobile Connect Software as follows:

SMS altnum 0xxxxxxxxx (last 9 digits of the alternate cellphone number you wish your notifications to be sent to) to 123.

NOTE:

* An activation notification message will then be sent to your specified alternate cellphone number.
* All future SMS data usage notifications will be sent to the alternate number specified.
* The 10 digit cellphone number specified does NOT have to be on the Vodacom Network.

Replace the 0xxxxxxxxx with the cell phone number of Pieter Uys (Vodacom's CEO). Note the last point: You can also use MTN numbers, so it will work with Pieter's number.

Brilliant idea! :D

As far as I know there's no ALTNUM for pre-paid though. :(

@VD: What I meant is, must we individually log queries with 155 and send you the reference numbers, or is this being resolved for everyone?

Its a problem so the update/fix/workaround should be for everyone.

What's his number?

I finally stopped getting these silly notifications! I was quite excited, thinking that they'd finally fixed it - and then I realised that it was just because my bundle was finished :(

I haven't received any since December 9 and I also assumed it was fixed.
Just checked my bundle now and it is still there.

Hmm, the last messages I got were on the 11th and 12th - maybe those were real warnings? I'll have to load a new bundle and see what happens!

ROFL.

I was opted out by Vodacom until I bought another bundle and then they started again. :D I may refer the guys in charge to a networking 101 guide if I can find it.
