Vodacom is ready for LTE

Awesome, lets switch it on!

Oh wait...

To launch commercial LTE services operators need suitable spectrum, but ICASA and the DoC are dragging their feet when it comes to handing out this valuable resource.

Oh wow LTE @ R2 per meg we will get 50mbps which is 6.25 MB/s so we can burn R12.50 per second or R750 per minute!!!

Data bundles are available...and if you have a standard data bundle loaded on your contract, then the OOB rate is R1.00, not R2.00. Besides, by the looks of things, LTE is still a very long way off the way things are going...and by then the pricing could look rather different. I suggest you wait till then to see what the story is.

Oh wow, so it's only R375 per minute. That's so much better.

Guys. We'll have several new shiny underwater cables by the time LTE is activated. Data rates should plunge in the next two years.

"Should" being the operative word :|

Yes and if you buy a data bundle as is advisable, lets say the Mofaya 2Gig deal it is R0.075 a meg. And ignoring where I said that by the time LTE gets released the pricing of data could very well look very different. I was merely pointing out a fact regarding the OOB rates. End of the day...if you gonna use data...you should have a data bundle. Everyone on Mybb should know that by now.

There really is no need for your sarcasm.

Problem with a bundle on contract is the minute you go over your bundle - say goodbye to your bank account

I do admit that there is a bit of planning required on your part when it comes to data bundles on your part...specially if you are a heavy downloader. But it is rather easy to log in, check how much you have left, then check on your download manager or torrent software how much your torrents come to. So if you have 800megs left, but you see that you will be downloading 1.5 gigs...then you mos know you are gonna go OOB and then it is just a question of requesting a add on bundle to cover the shortfall...in this case 700megs so you can add a once off 750meg bundle.

Also, we have the functionality to enter a alternate number that will be notified once your bundle is depleted..so if you have a 3G sim in a modem, you can ask us to load your cell number in your phone as the alternate...so we will SMS your phone instead of the modem to notify you once you are about to go oob.

LTE is being rolled out on a vast scale worldwide. Only ICASA stands between SA being part of this new technology. There are many devices already supporting 4G, which cannot be used here in SA.

not true. write to the Minister of Communications and ask her to finalise her policy directions so this can get going.

Iyoh! That's a lot of work. How about uncapped 3mbs LTE or a large bundle 50GB perhaps at R350 :) But you know Voda**** will never do that, screw their new stations.

Kudos to Vodacom for their innovation. They have the best networks in the country because they keep on investing unlike MTN whose greed takes them to the whole of Africa leaving us with a sub-standard network. Just a pity that their customer service is so bad. I would have moved 6 contracts to them but I had a bad experience when I was declined with a P800 rating and with an exisiting Vodacom contract in good standing. I was later approved, citing a system error, but it left such a bad taste in the mouth that I lost interest. However, I will keep a keen eye on their progress.

WWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....

I cant even catch 3g in my area ....rofl

So, should the public be doing ICASA's duties?
The public elected the party who placed the politician to take charge of the DoC. ICASA can do nothing until the DoC has published their policy directions. So yes, the public should tell the minister to get her arse in gear.
