I gotta disagree with you there Iam3g. I am consistently getting fantastic speed test results from the voda speed test and when I say consistently I mean over 200KB/s just about everytime without fail any time of the day regardless which inidicates to me that I am perfectly aligned with the tower but in real world browsing and down loading it's so far from consistent that it's no longer funny!!

Durinf the course of the day the actual down load speeds fluctuate from 2KB/s-160KB/s but the average is what is concerning and I would guess that to be around 30KB/s

Download Speed: 1555 kbps (194.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 59 kbps (7.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 1724 kbps (215.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 360 kbps (45 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 1738 kbps (217.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 357 kbps (44.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

I mean look at these results?!!! They are superb but they don't translate into real world browsing...

These are indeed excellent and probably cannot get any better. Think of it as a fat pipe up to a certain point (where we break out into the internet) where suddenly you hit a thin pipe. Even with this fat pipe as your first section everything seems slow as you always see the 'throughput' of the 'thinnest' pipe in such a serial system.

Now think what's going to happen when the thin pipe at the end of the line is suddenly opened up (hopefully very soon). You're going to be the envy of everyone on the forum.

Yes, the potential is certainly there and I've seen files getting crunched at a rate of +150KB/s in the past but I hope I won't be smoking a pipe when next I see this happening!!!

Download Speed: 1740 kbps (217.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 355 kbps (44.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Very sweet yes!!! Read em and weep...

I did a few tests from 7pm until now. From 7pm it was great, got +-900kbps(still not acceptable).

Speed test i did just now:
Download Speed: 141 kbps (17.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 319 kbps (39.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Notice how the preformance degraded...

How come the performance down after 7? Is it high call volume as people start using their off peak free minutes?

I would imagine it would be far worse the 1st-3rd of the month with customers receiving their allotment of free minutes for the month and bad end of the month for similar reasons, data bundle customers using up existing bandwidth to avoid loosing it... that you suffering like this middle of the month would suggest something far more sinister is on the go...

Well it seems that my problems are now resolved.

I just spoke to my brother in London for 27 minutes on Skype. It did get a bit thin on occasion, but that is to be expected with 3G speeds (and a Windowze update chugging allong in the background).

Speedtest:
Download Speed: 367 kbps (45.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 55 kbps (6.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
3G Prepaid
Rivonia, Jhb.

Thanks for the support V3G

sigh ... it's now 8.39pm. Don't not feel like running through the whole Hi, are, ping to this and that, how many kbps I have upload and download, signal strength etc....

Just want to say that this is pathetic ... takes forever to load local and international pages, cannot play online..... etc ... the same as other posters and myself have been doing in the last few weeks.

Could someone at VC at least post the issues and get them stickied so that we are at least aware of what is happening and when they aim to solve it... can't be bothered to wade through pages (takes to long to load them) trying to see what the problem is from VC's side....

:(

Its almost 10pm. Connected to HSDPA. Downloading file... at 11KB/s... and decreasing. What to do what to do. I wonder if DAP would make any difference?

Me also lost some megabytes from last night.

Yep, same here --> 55MB billed which are unaccounted for on both my netmeter and HMP:mad: And considering that I watch my usage very closely there is certain no way I used 70MB when my pc says 15MB.

Take note:

Hi ic,

Thanks, I have stickied the link. Not quite what I had in mind. What I thought of was a stickied post that either a mod or v3g had access to and and specific problems pertaining to the VC network could be posted. No other person other than the abovementioned could post in that thread (ie. locked).

A bit of transparency on what is happening would be great. I say this as it is clear that around 3 - 4 weeks ago there was a sudden deterioration in the network with problems like disconnects, connecting but no sending / receiving, 619 errors and extremely slow speed.

On another note:
FYI: Last nights speed problems improved at 11pm.

Well on my side I still am getting a crappy connection. They know what the problem is why dont they fix it. Yes wow vodacom speed test looks great but its local. try a international speed test and you will be shocked.

They know that there is congestion in the evenings cause there more users online. My international speed is acceptable early in the mornings. but kuk slow in the evenings which is when i use it.

How can they keep on advertising "The Best Broadband for your rand" when they cant back it up. Who wants a good local speed, we need a good international speed. They should have anticipated so many users and made preparations back in the day for their network to carry all of us.

They say wait until they get more bandwidth from Telkom, but we are paying for this service we cant use in the meantime. They say get a contract today and surf tonight no waiting 3 weeks for lines to be installed. But what are we doing now, we waiting for telkom to install more line (increase bandwidth).

Iam getting so tired of using all my cap doing speed tests and posting them here and to vodacom. So we are paying to find their fault and report it, i mean wtf. Give us a crappy connetion and we will pay to find the fault for you. I think we are all Noobs by doing this.

What should be done is that we should all put stop payment to Vodacom debit orders. take the modems use them to wipe our ass and send them back. How long is long enough 1 week, 2 weeks, a month maybe two. But thats ok cause we are all wealthy and dont mind paying R 450 a month.

Whats worse is that I was happy with the connection i had a month ago. So whatever vodacom did a month ago they should reverse.

Vodacom 3G/HSDPA Problems

Hi all

I would just like to make a seperate post which identifies the Problems we are experiencing at the moment with our international bandwidth, and ask V3G to keep it up to date with any changes and dates. The last post I found was the following:

There are a few relevant areas:

1) Pre-paid connectivity issue - Interim work helped, new systems starting to go in this week.

2) Internal capacity upgrades - 2 systems done, one (affecting Gauteng), this week.

3) Additional International bandwidth - Awaiting SAIX. No ETA, but should not be weeks.

4) Current broken SAIX link - No idea, but as it affects ADSL as well, hopefully quick.

If I get better dates, I'll post.

In the event of any earth-shattering news, I will put up a forum announcement with a link to v3g's post about the news.

Thank you, ic, you're a pillar of strength in these turbulent times. :)

*I still love Vodacom3G, my 'rantings' are not aimed at him, but the network. ;)
