Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Status
Not open for further replies.
Connection was intermittent last night (at the Waterfront, on prepaid). Which isn't great, but is a large improvement over being constantly down, I guess.

So it looks like the issue's been partially resolved.

I think the DNS servers are a little boned, for the last 4 days i have being trying to connect to the vodacom4me.co.za website... it does not resolve at all (this is while using vodacom)

I was having trouble with the HSDPA network last night again. Between 7pm and 9pm. Intermitent disconnections. A whole lot 619 errors inbetween that. Download Speed really slow(didnt bother to do speed test as i know what the results would be).

Got pretty frustrated, switched off, and went to go watch Fear Factor. After that it seemed to be working(After 9pm), but it was k@k slow. Slow like... a webpage taking +- 30seconds to open on HSDPA.

w1z, what DNS IP's are being pushed back to you? Maybe just do an ipconfig /all and post the output.

Hey V3g, here are the details:

Code:
PPP adapter VMCLite:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
        Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
        Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00
        Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.61.6.234
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.61.6.234
        DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 80.95.225.230
                                            80.95.225.231
        Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 10.11.12.13
        Secondary WINS Server . . . . . . : 10.11.12.14

Let me know if you need anything else.

FYI, the domain is now resolving.

vodacom speed test

the vodacom speed test consistently returns outstanding performance figures but in reality i am barely able to browse the internet with this voda connection.

what gives?

it was only the other day that i was heaping praise on vodacoms product but lately, about the last 4 days it's been horrendous!!!

Hi

Have had problems with slow throughput(next to nothing) since yesterday - and I'm spitting distance from the great Vodaworld. Called twice and been told both times that this is a 'general fault' affecting a number of users. Guy called Quintin from engineering called and transferred the call to the 3g guys to attend to. No call yet.
As of now 13:43 seems to be working but one has to pray and hope things don't go t1ts up again!

Surprised there's not many other posts? Probably can't get on to complain
:p

oops forgot to mention - on prepaid!

1:45pm. Somerset West Area(At my work). Latest Vodacom Speed test results:
Download Speed: 1849 kbps (231.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 276 kbps (34.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

For some reason i'm struggling to open webpages, even with that speed.

So i'm not the only one battling with webpages. That's a relief. Just ahd a customer too, connected to HSDPA, we battled to open the webpages.

I have also been struggling the last two days ... given, my HSDPA reception is not wonderful, but it is much slower than normal ... especially international

I made a thread about the problem being telkom related.

Heck I got a new 3G aerial from Vodacom (thanks guys) and was great all weekend, then boom every1s back at work and suddenly my granny on her lung machine can do a quarter mile quicker then my e220 card can open internet pages.

Nothing is working. Some pages just barely load, sometimes.

Can confirm that the connection goes down every odd minute in my area so there is no change from last night. I am at my wits end now, this is seriously not on!!

And on top of this, SAIX just told us they lost some links somewhere. In their own words:

"Clients may experience slow international connectivity since 14:00"

This will be what is causing the web timeouts.

No ETTR yet.
