Vox Telecom Fatpipe

There it goes again.

Ping doubled and international slow.
Like a switch. Been fine all day and now all of a sudden there are issues.

10 mbps ADSL, Gauteng

Just as bad here in Hout Bay, fortunately I have a Wireless Backup rout so I just swap routers.
The wireless is not much better though so it may be a backhawl or international issue.

Openserve fibre works fibe on the that account. So anyone on Openserve fibre can use it too. ;)
 
It literally just went back to normal...

I did one ping test, 25ms (high), then another - 3ms (normal)

Fine now in jhb as well. Last night it couldn't even run my WhatsApp backup.

I think it's Openserve. My other account was also not working great...

Well for me it was perfect all the way even torrents. This was me downloading last night at 19:14

Just adding in my own experience:

At night, when the ping to the myBB speedtest server (JHB) doubles seems to coincide with when the issues start.

Tests I have done during the times when there are issues:

Ping bras.afrihost.com - all normal
Speedtest to a server in the Vaal - all normal
Speedtest to myBB server in JHB - double ping
Switch to AH account - all normal
Switch back to Vox account - issues
Did the switching multiple times in case it was just coincidence - but still same results
Used vpn on Vox - performs even worse
Used vpn on AH - performs as normal

Main issues found: double ping to JHB and terrible international speeds (especially on vpn).

Definitely seems to be Vox.

Tag me in a post when you see the issue again we can compare trace routes and see why it's different. Honestly I don't see the increased latency or slow speeds on my side so would be nice to compare and see if the routes are different

Have you reported this to them?

Every time I contact them their story is that nobody has reported anything wrong.

Edit: Bleh, my line just went to pot again....

Yep. Same here in Southern Suburbs CT. Had the same packet loss issues last night. Was on the phone with their 1st line support guy for almost and hour trying to convince them it was not my WiFi...eventually emailed them a ping and tracert.

Connection was back to normal since about 9am this morning. But now back to rubbish since an hour ago.

At least now when you call the support line they acknowledge a CT problem...sigh.
 
So, the double ping etc started again.

So not my exchange as the ping to bras.afrihost.com is normal.

Seems something is up somewhere along the way to JHB which is affecting the performance.

On AH, all is fine. Will do more tests tomorrow as I am sick at the moment and not up to it.

I'm seeing some increased latency to Google local CDN not sure if it's google or maybe the peering between Vox and Google that is congested. Maybe that is the issue but speed wise it's still fine.


Here is my single threaded google drive download speed in Opera browser.
