Vox Telecom Fatpipe

This was my fault. I just fixed it now.

Basically what you're seeing is a default error message on the captive portal system.

Normally what happens is when you have reached your cap, you will be redirected to a specific portal or landing page; I forgot to add this to the captive portal system, and you were forced to see a horrible default error. Sorry!

Regards,
Chris

The account I have been on has no cap. Well it has, it's a 1 TB account. But it's far from capped ;).

Haven't seen this error again though. So thanks for fixing it :)

Browsing. I can't reach any sites. Skype would stay connected. Mail would still work (outlook) but browsing won't. If I switch to googles DNS it works.

For what it's worth, the issue could live in your router's DNS pass-through resolver.

The previous router that I had (some D-Link, can't remember the model number but I seem to recall it being the predecessor to the current D-Link that Telkom gives out) had some very strange behaviour in this regard. Whenever certain clients would connect to the network (most notably, my brother-in-law's iThings), the resolver would simply stop resolving DNS names, and nothing short of a router restart would sort it out. Of course, it couldn't be bypassed easily: the router gave out its own address for DNS via DHCP, and acted as a pass-through resolver for whatever DNS servers it got from the ISP or which were manually configured (and the pass-through resolver was what kept falling over), and the address given out through DHCP was not configurable.

I ended up solving this the creative way: dusted off an old box of mine, installed dhcpd and bind on it, and turned DHCP on the router off. Sadly, that box has now died, but the router has long been replaced with one with more reliable DNS pass-through.

Thanks @Kelerei

I doubt that my router is the culprit. I have never had this issue with Afrihost or any other ISP :)
Nonetheless, I will have a look at my routers settings and maybe do a reset and see if that will cure it. I haven't had this issue once today. So far so good :)

And kaputt again. Streaming buffering every 30 seconds. Browsing sluggish. On top of that, DNS has failed again.

Here tests done with ping plotter. It is ALWAYS hop 3 thats the problem @cvanwie, please have your guys investigate that hop. Seems thats the culprit.

Having the same problems, game latency is spiking up and down, skype calls dropping etc.
Just now the mybroadband page would not even load even when changing the dns.

Same with me as well. Also from Worcester. Speed tests to CapeTown servers give around 99 to 127ms, with speeds around 11mbps on a 20mbps account. Hopefully they can get this sorted out soonish.

Last 12 hours.

This connection is shot completely. I can live with the higher latency. What I cannot live with it sluggish browsing or slow to none streaming.

Started to download centos 7 last night via torrents, it is sitting at 34%. getting a avg of 2-7kb/sec. So it seems torrents are shot too.

Registered and cancelled Vox ADSL in one day. Made the decision in less than 15 Mins.
Internet Experience is everything. Period.
Vox FatPipe Business DSL contract.

Tried it and Honestly hated it.

Vox Fatpipe on 4Mbps ADSL line:
Download Speed: 1718 kbps (214.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 392 kbps (49 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 177 ms

Afrihost on 4Mbps ADSL Line:
Download Speed: 3461 kbps (432.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 423 kbps (52.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 92 ms

Telkom was slightly slower than Afrihost but not by much. Telkom was however far better than Vox Fatpipe.... oh, Vox also bungled their user automation function, by misspelling the username via SMS.

I was given username @dsl.vox.co.za which failed authentication repeatedly, called the support desk and was told username should be @dsl.lantic.net (basic issues which would affect all automated users, short sighted). The support process was painless enough.

Vox Fatpipe in PE very poor this evening, all the symptoms as mentioned above. First time I've experienced it.

What's going on guys ? Not what I expect.

Any idea if it's going to be fixed or improve?

ISP 1 tanks - > everyone moves to ISP 2, tanks - > everyone moves to ISP? tanks. Repeat.

hopefully everyone leaves, and it starts being decent again.

my fatpipe is dead. and I cannot connect to Vox either. had to switch to another Isp account. anyone else experiencing the same?

When did Fatpipe become so cheap?
Ic 50gb is considerably less than afrihost.

I love the Fatpipe so I may just go for the data as a standby account.

Hi Electric,

From what I can see 50GB on Fatpipe is R 170. Is that what you are referring to?
