WACS undersea fibre cable deployment progressing well

Exactly.

Hopefully by then we will have 20Mbps at decent prices...wishful thinking? =/

Wishful thinking indeed, but add Telkom to the mix and you can't even go there...sigh can someone not fire Telkom already?

Actually telkom is the problem now. We need an alternative to ADSL, and no 3g is not one. Too bad neotel is too stupid to bring out retail WiMax

With LLU happening at the end of next year, hopefully it will mean cheaper bandwidth. Maybe even 20Mb/s. *myoclonic jerk* sorry, I was dreaming.

This is brilliant news indeed, but don't break out the Champers just yet. Telkom does not even have the infrastructure to provide us residential plebs with 10mbps ADSL.

Eassy landed 5months ago, and it hasnt made any difference... why do you think WACS will make a difference

Huh? Doesn't CellC offer 21Mbps?

Wireless yes, but not for fixed line, i.e. ADSL, FTTH, etc. Also I doubt that everyone with a Cell C 21Mbps modem is actually getting those speeds, but I could be wrong, I don't really know. First prize is for most a fixed line solution, not wireless.

Whats wrong with wireless?? I used Sentech MyWireless for many years before ADSL. Worked great.
If its twice as fast as a copper cable, then its kicking wired ass.
Plus, its wireless! Way of the future. Only those nerds playing computer games online and certain other corner cases will be using wired access
But as for advertised speed versus actual, you might be right. I haven't actually used CellC

Yeah, EASSy isn't as open as Seacom so somehow I suspect a collaboration between stakeholders to gobble up and not to pass any savings through to the consumer.
