Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

Hey guys,

I'll have something posted a little later today on the issues experienced. It's getting run through by Management quickly to make sure what I'm saying is 100% correct.

I would just like to add that WebAfrica has phoned me, given me detailed explanations and increased confidence, since things are in the improve and still being worked on I am quite satisfied.

Thanks WA Team

I moved over to WA in December after managament wanted to cut costs. Shopping arround WA was the best option; same service as my last isp (uncapped with static IP's) for R1000 less then what we were paying. But as is true in so many areas, you get what you pay for.

Service thus far

Signed up in Nov with them to activate the service when the new line was installed. By mid December they were still waiting on Telkom (no ports). Fair enough thats a Telkom issue and I hold nothing against WA for that.

Our Datapro service ended on 31 Dec so on the 15th Dec I contacted WA to ask for the router to be provisioned and shipped by 21st as we shutdown and I needed it in place before then. I thought 3 days would be more than enough time. They only responded to my request on the 21st saying would be shipped then and arrive on the 22nd after we shut down. Even though I phoned them daily, I was told each time they would come back to me.

On the 28th I go in to install the router and get everything working only to discover the router is faulty. Then another 4 or 5 working days to replace it, (ok fair enough that was over new year and I'm not to stressed about that).

Since then I've had constant browsing issues and I'm having to restart my router at least once a week if not more just to get it working again. (Amazing how the same line and internal network config worked perfeclty on the Vox Datapro network with maybe 2 resets in 2 years)

Again I logged a call last week Wednesday and only got my first follow-up on Monday which was a call I missed and I got a message to call them back. I sent Jeff here a pm on Friday which he responded to that afternoon, but I wonder if I hadn't if I still wouldn't be waiting for a reply.

Tuesday (yesterday) I phoned in and there was a problem with the provisioning of the router and they wanted me to do a reset on it. Got a call back about an hour later to be told it was provisioned correctly now and my problems where solved. I explained again that it was not a speed issue but a browsing issue (pages constantly not found and eventually coming up after 4 or 5 reloads). Was told they would investigate and come back to me.

Still nothing.

Phoned today because we where down completely and restarting didn't help. Asked to speak to the technician who has been handling it all for me, was told he was on a call and would call me back as soon has he was finished that call. That was just under 2 hours ago, still waiting...

Since then did another restart and have connectivity again, but still having browsing issues.

In short this change to WA was the worste IT mistake I've made in years, if things don't get sorted soon, will be time to vote with my wallet and change to someone that can provide the service we need.

So what did they say?

Hi all,

Hopefully this will address the recent issues that have been posted online. We haven’t been ignoring you guys, just spotting what actually needs the attention and getting that sorted.

We’ve spotted and trended:

Gaming:
This seems to mostly lay with SW:TOR. As this is a new game and not available in SA it’s been fairly tricky to identify the traffic and properly prioritise it through our network. We’ve setup some test stations in the office and monitoring things closely to try and get this sorted. We have also included our DPI vendors to get this matched correctly.

Download Plus Hours:
We’ve seen a large spike from the start of Download Plus on both Capped and Uncapped users which seems to be having a negative effect on throughput in general. We have procured further capacity to handle this as well as expanded our already huge monitoring solutions to better track performance during Download Plus.

News Server:
Mentioned before, but we’re busy testing an entirely new News Server. Follow the thread on our forums for some more updates.

We expect to finalise the new system this week.

Thanx for all your feedback in these matters.

SW:TOR, MineCraft, Terraria for me, others have said HON and WoW.

It's been behaving itself the last week or so for me though, hence why I've been quiet :D

But those latency issues certainly weren't/aren't exclusive to TOR.

Glad to see WA is still actively vested in sorting this out  Puts a smile on my face :p

Hi Stevie, this is definitely not the level of service we intend to provide!

Could you send me your ticket(s) or customer code and I'll take a look for you right away. I assume you bought a Business DSL product from us?

No wonder there's no feed back, they're all busy playing SW:TOR :D

Jokes.

Didn't log it.. but here goes.

I'm not shaped/over my threshold but I can't pass the 90kb/s (1 meg line) mark. I'm at work now. I'll test tonight again.

Getting multiple disconnections in TOR today. No lag, just suddenly being booted :(

Skype also quits for a second (sound-wise) but line stats are logging perfectly.

Well I'd suggest log absolutely everything and secondly I am sure webafrica is taking this deadly serious.

'tis the first time I've had any grief in a while.

And I always log everything :D I like being certain it's not my side before complaining :)

Edit: So it WAS my side. Seems power is dipping here today. Seems to have dipped enough to "reboot" the router this time so I saw it in the logs.

Explains why there was no latency before it happened :D

*sigh* THANK YOU, ESKOM.

Well i must say since the capacity upgrades in the beginning of the year I had no problems at all.

Hey guys, i'm looking to go WA uncapped 384k as i'm moving and don't have too much cash to blow on internet. I was looking at 1MB capped but not keen on the Peak and Offpeak bandwidth deal. Any other suggestions?

Does anyone have a problem logging into origin , few days now, my origin sometimes log into offline mode etc, because cant seem to get a internet connection, also takes long to open bf3 , for the same reason, wonder if it is just my pc?
