Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

damn, my speeds are rock solid and maxing anything in sight. flying like hell.

A big thumbs up to Jeff and the Webafrican boys. My Redafrica account is back to the future.

Oi, give that man a Bells!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that the usuage for 11 days? Wow are u downloading constantly? That must mean you are in the throttled pool all the time

yes I am in the throttled pool but WebAfrica somehow maintains the browsing speed so even though I'm throttled during the day I never notice it.

I also use freezone during the day so my total download is much higher around 85 GB (steam stuff) and the gaming servers never lag ... so WA FTW

I think many off you with poor service/quality are probable in congested exchanges.

lastly I'm a heavy user and I accept the throttling which IMO is better than other ISP's. Overall a good experience. many of you should be patient as I'm sure this new throttling system has many teething problems jus give WA some time seeing as how its December and they wont have a full staff complement.

I Always get :
max Steam server access.
max gaming access.
News server runs max if content on SAIX but if on IS than runs at 60% speed any time of day... And I'm throttled.

I still think its the DSLAM's

If you game on international servers you have mass packetloss and no its not a congested exchange as Telkom Uncapped/ Telkom
Cybersmart works fine.

cant compare to Telkom seeing as how Telkom more expensive and also Telkom owns the last mile and controls priority bandwidth.

Morning guys,

Were any issues logged with our ADSL department over the weekend?
Seen a few mixed reports about speeds this weekend.

Please also note, network maintenance is planned for tonight from 23:00 - 07:00 tonight.

Quick question Jeff, are you guys peering with mweb?

Whenever my mweb friends join a Wage bf3 server they get 200+ pings etc.. and invariably leave the game. Any ideas?

Edit: Also, seeing as Origin is becoming a necessary evil, any plans to create a local mirror for that too? Not sure if they even offer mirrors as an option.

Heya Joker,

We do peer with Mweb yes, both at a CINX and JINX level. Where are the Mweb players based? CPT/ JHB?
From what I can see, Origin don't offer a service like that just yet - their setup are quite different compared to Steam. I'll drop a line to the Games Master and see if anything can be organised.

Is this the maintenance that was originally planned for the 15th? One of the ADSL support guys told me that it might be happening today already.

No. The maintenance here is being run by our upstream providers, so our Engineers aren't attending to it. The capacity roll out is still planned for the 15th, this can't be pushed forward at all unfortunately.

If you can remember, please drop me a PM with the agents name who mentioned this. Would like to follow up with him/her :)

No? I complain here. It feels a bit overboard to complain everywhere :p Also, I kind of assume I'd just be wasting my time with support. I mean, the last time I opened up a ticket to complain about slow speeds and the HTTPS issue I was told that they couldn't replicate it. They also totally forgot about testing my account at 08:00 like we had arranged and only tested it a few minutes after I submitted another ticket at 11:00 to ask if I can switch back to that account yet.

The next time I complained just about the HTTPS issue I was told that you're scheduling some imminent changes to your network in the course of the evening that you hope will resolve it and that was the last I heard of that. However, HTTPS issues have at least been resolved since then. But I doubt it had anything to do with my ticket :p

Just feels like a waste of time, to be honest. Either you're aware of problems that some customers are having and you'll be fixing them or you aren't and won't.

Regardless, any tickets I send in now would likely result in me being told, "Things should get better after the 15th." So I'm waiting until the 15th.

You mean brutally scold them for telling customers the wrong information? :p

Well this is where I have the problem...

Webafrica provides a service where people in the threshold abiding by the rules are being affected, these thresholds are unique to Webafrica. As a result of "being good" the people are supposed to have a "Awesome experiance". Webafrica is not the cheapest of the ISP's and as such one expects a good service. That is my understanding of following the fair usage policy. BUT

1) We experience huge packet loss at the same times on any form of streaming or gaming.
2) We get told that the network isnt running full yet this problem is experienced.
3) What if this increased capacity does not solve the problem ?
4) What happens when capacity gets full again, how long will we have to wait ?

Why is it on weekends I never have problems but weekdays I do, OUT of office hours on week days ?

I closed my ticket after being told that it will be fixed on the 15'th and basically got the impression of "Final answer sit down and wait", WAJeff you have my ticket number in the PM I gave you a few days ago.

Oh yes let alone I'm paying R600 for a service that basically feels like a alpha test of a network.

When I've experienced a problem for over 10 days my patience goes out the window, the shaping on non standard protocols is absolutely insane to this level of just dropping packets but peoples speed tests remain flawless. When I joined WA there were no problems, I raved about the service to my co-workers and now this...

It's sickening.

With the shapers, they have the ability to prioritise Speedtest.net. It doesn't give an idea of what is being curtailed.

My Patience will be done if this is int resolve by the 15th.

At this moment I feel like im paying for something which im not getting.

x2

Edit: I'm tired of being shaped 24/7. Yes.. if I'm over my limit, but holy moly.. 11pm /weekends I'm still shaped. It never stops.

It only stops when I switch account to Telkom.. and let 6 hours pass so I get back into the non-shaped line. 2-3 hours later hit the threshold (feels like 10min).. and bam.. back to 1/2 line speed. No matter what.

Please tell me WAJeff.

If I'm over my threshold... should I be shaped to 50% line speed for the rest of time? Weekends and weekdays even after 10pm? Is it true that shaping only occurs if the network is busy? Because I never seem to break the 50% speed barrier if I go over.. never.

Am I wrong? I just want clarification.

Thank God i did not move from Mweb to the Web Africa account, even though Mweb shape, it does not sound half as bad as Web Africa!

Thank you very much, Mweb is now my number 1 ISP...

Still can't stream anything. :-/

It starts off fast, ~300KBps, and then dips to around 50KBps.

...there is always the CPA, ISPA, ICASA, ASA. I'm surprised mybroadband (well not really thb) has not made an article about this. It took 1x article about mweb for them to really start fixing their issues. I'd bet that few complaints + article would do the same. Clearly you guys has been flagshipped, which is sad that I would have thought WA would have been at least PROACTIVE and not REACTIVE. I've pulled over 100gb in with mweb without any issue, not really sure what to download now :o
