I made a mybroadband account when I saw this thread. I had to come in here and thank webafrica for this amazing product. Gaming is quite important to me as i take it generally serious, thus a low ping to EU is a top priority. Getting 180 ping in dota2 and streams play without any lag on highest quality, also if I download something it downloads at high speeds at any time in the day.

I want to upgrade from 4mb/s to 10mb/s uncapped but found the jump in price to be a bit unreasonable.

Any idea when 10mb/s lines will become a bit more reasonably priced? :o

2034, but all ISP's are like that not just Webafrica

I moved from Cybersmart to Webafrica from the first of this month and so far it's been perfect, pings are lower and Cybersmart and I don't have any problems downloading anything like I did with Cybersmart and it's R20 cheaper than what I was paying Cybersmart for 384kbps 15GB and uncapped during the mornings from 1:00am to 7:00am. The thing is the account I had with Cybersmart was an old account and if you had to sign up with them now you can't get the account I had, the best you can get from them now is a 10GB 384kbps account and it will cost R354 compared to the 15GB one I had for R299, so they have gotten a lot more expensive on what they offer since I got my account from them 2? years ago.

Wow, 56k now 35k, that is seriously stupid! Sigh, still not convinced about this account: some people (like king_doni and others) claim that EU servers are sub-250ms in games; from what I read LoL, Dota2 etc. I previously asked about HON, someone said about 200ms. Now, unlike Lycan which loves his SWTOR, I am waiting for GW2.... however long it may or may not be until open beta, I planned on getting this account for lower international gaming pings (with some normal and D+ downloads); which would help me in HON / GW as well.

Yet, still after seeing this, I am STILL not sure about this account, and I will be frustrated as hell by jumping from one account to a same-to-worse account.
 
Just migrated from cybersmart 1mb nightrider all in one R500 a month to 1mb webafrica home uncapped for R490.

My ping used to be 120 to 150, now on webafrica I get around 80 to 100.
Also used to get about 1.2 to 1.3 GB downloaded at night, now it's at least 2GB.
Not only is the control panel a million times better and more informative, the support is fast and friendly.

My only regret is not dumping cybersmart a long time ago.

Outside of DL+ hours everything is still completely normal.

The number in itself is largely irrelevant. The point is that seconds after logging in the world comes to a dead halt and that number just keeps going up and up and up and up. The first time it happened (night before last) I left it to go well over 200,000ms. I'm not sure at what point the server would just boot me; probably around 5-minutes? Point is that even 1,000ms of lag is unplayable. So what does that make a frozen world?

It's certainly possible. A lot of dicks (no offence, guys, but you're chopping into MY service quality right now) scheduling downloads past midnight clogging the lines, perhaps? As I said, this only seems to be happening during DL+ hours for now.

I have, yes. Updated it last night with that exact screenshot. Reference: RDB021002163 which is ultimately a continuation from: RDB02990152

Support is as professional and courteous as always.

Have basically been told that it has been logged with network engineers to investigate it for me. So, basically, I wait.

Was going to ask you this knowing a bit if your uncapped experiences if it's not the exchange. Haven't given much the thought of DL+ hours and how it could rather negatively impact experience VS having it spread over all hours.

With my old IS account with OpenWeb Gold it was a stark contrast. From 07:00-17:00 I got half my line-speed (150-200kB/s) for pretty much all protocols (I hated this because if I want to download a frikkin' Steam game NOW, I want it NOW). However, outside of that time everything went at full-speed.

A lot of people don't like IS but I actually didn't have any grief with it. The only other thing I really disliked was the international latency on IS (300-400ms).

So naah, it isn't the exchange. Also, if it were the exchange I would've assumed that switching to Afrihost and back wouldn't make a difference during those hours, but it does. It's also a bit too coincidental that it would go to Hell ONLY during DL+ hours, don't you think?

Anyway, 'tis not for me to figure out, just to loudly protest about :D

Edit: Also, Skype quality was less-than-perfect. My SO has a 10Mbps line in Denmark and uploads at about 2Mbps so video comes through at 150kB/s on WA (WOOHOO). Never managed more than 40-odd on IS. So you'd have to really push me to ever go back :D

Look, I'm mad about WA and I'll keep recommending them. Right now it's just this one issue that's working on my tits all over again.

I regularly play till around 3 am in the morning and my ping stays the same in dota2. 170 - 180. log a ticket. us east i get around 230 ping which is always nice :D

I just logged in a few minutes ago. FREQUENT spikes between 800-2,200ms. That's unplayable.

Looks like I get to spend the weekend on Afrihost.

Could someone from WA PLEASE tell me what they are doing to investigate this and when it will be sorted???

Please don't tell me I'm going to have to wait another fifteen days for a capacity upgrade.

Not on uncapped but seen as Jeff redirected here I will post.

I have the same problem as you on my normal account but on WA Uncapped, WOW is brilliant. I have an idea that those of us with older accounts that are no longer available are bundled with the uncapped people and subject to the uncapped pings.

Eek... I guess that's possible... Although I really don't know how it would work or why it would make sense, especially if you're on a capped product.

All I know is that I've spent this evening on Afrihost and it's been a smooth, stable ride without a single hitch.

I want my WA back, and my proper WA latency :(

I'm on a 1mb line, so how is 719.49 MB in 1 hour possible? Still new and trying to grasp this whole rolling window thing.
