Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

I just transferred from Telkom's 3-month uncapped trial to WA 1Mbps Home uncapped. On the Telkom line I was consistently getting around 90 KBps, which is what I would expect, but this is not the case with WA. See below

Are there still problems with WA connectivity?

That is a bit worrying, but WA has said that they are still busy implementing upgrades. I think they mentioned something abuot 2 weeks to go still, or something like that.

I'm also having hassles with my line transfer, and in the mean time both Telkom and WA are charging me for uncapped usage :-(

Why doesn't the limits get reset in a new month? I'm still over my 7 day limit because of end Jan download...

Edit: And I almost (99% of the time) never get full speed. Even if I'm not over the limits for days.

Hi there,

The rolling window doesn't work on a monthly reset type basis, but rather resets every 6 hours and 7 days. So the usage you've done over the last 7 days is calculated. On the 8th day you may still be over your 7 day rolling period.

Drop me a PM and I'll confirm things for you.

I might be going blind, but I don't see that is doesn't get reset at end of month. But my bad..

But seriously... can't it be reset at the start of the month?

I have always understood the 7 day rolling window to be exactly that.. a constant window of the past 7 days no matter what day it is.

but i personally think limits for the 6 hour window is rather low (1mbps and down).

Unfortunately not no.
The rolling window system specifically resets after 6 hours and 7 days. Resetting at the start of the month would require an entire system re-write.

I think we did look at something like this, but decided that the rolling window we currently have is the better option.

Maybe I have been too long on the capped side (assuming 1st of month = new cap).

And I agree.. 6 hour limit is little bit insane. I still have to use my Telkom backup account to get past this (and I don't download 24/7..)

No probs. Thanks

I've just decided to shift over to OW's silver uncapped to see how that goes for a while. I work from home and with no downloads running what so ever during the day, after 3 hours im over the threshold and it just stays that way permanently.

WA's 1MBPS uncapped is cheaper than any other, but shifting the price up a little to give a realistic rolling window on the 1mbps and below accounts is not something i'd be against at all. I understand they've just simply divided the 4mbps by 4 but did anyone stop to consider if that's realistic usage? Websites are full of rich media and sometimes even the combined html/js/css of a single web page can be close on 1MB.

This is now the third day on the WA 4MB uncapped account, and after a good first evening this account is giving me problems. Slow download speeds, SLOW browsing, I cant even get a speedtest.net test completed ;/ Then, I get pings of 220ms up to 50,000ms + spikes in Guild Wars :'(

Really dissappointing start, I still had faith you guys have improved the product after all the things you guys said on this topic.

WHAT is wrong with the network.. and no Im not even close to being at the low 6 hours limit :(

@WAJeff

Been having problems streaming the last few days, whenever i stream it is very choppy, also been having lag in starcraft 2 and bf3 the last few days.....

Hmmm I wonder if this is what some of us were saying we were concerned might happen.

Hey guys,

We experienced an outage due to our upstream provider having issues.
Please see the official outage thread for more details.

Date: 5 Feb 2012
Attending: Upstream provider
Impact: Customers may experience increased latency when browsing.

I've been on WA since the 1st Feb, and speeds have been consistently lower than the 1 Mbps I'm paying for. I'll give it until the end of the month, but if it doesn't shape up (no pun intended!) by then, then I'm jumping ship - again...

@wenervn - just a tip, submit your cancellation now and you can always un-cancel at the drop of a hat. WA can only cancel at month end.. im sitting with a 1MBPS uncapped that I don't want now for another 30 days, I cancelled on the 2nd.

I've been pretty damn happy with my new 4mb uncapped account! I've just got one issue and it's a pretty big'un.

I was off ill today but I had a lot of work to finish, so I dialed into our office VPN. It was completely unusable and still is. I phoned our network guys and crapped all over them until I figured I'd try my Afrihost capped account. Voila, no problems. What's up with that?

Must say, I have exactly the same problem. I work from home and VPN into client machines.

It's always horribly slow or disconnects me a lot when running via Web Africa 4mb Uncapped, but my backup Afrihost account doesn't cause this.

Other than that, yes, I'm one of the few lucky ones, running the account now nearly 2 and a half months and I've been very happy with it!
