Not a techie like most of you but just before 10:00 the streaming was better than ever before. Around 10:00 it just won’t connect with overseas servers. Not sure what changed. Any ideas?

On another note CI and other ISP’s have increased speed to their subscribers at no charge. Come on Websquad, show them how it is done.

What streaming service are you struggling with? Hulu, Amazon Prime and Disney all connecting just fine. Non CDN based services may be taking strain with the higher latency. Hopefully this is a quick fix.

We're all ready to go for Wednesday, all Web sQuad clients are getting a speed upgrade. Email comms are being sent out.

Cinema HD and Cyberflix which was running like a dream for most of the morning.

Wow I am happy to hear you guys are also increasing speeds. Awesome

Free Home Fibre Speed Upgrades:

Web sQuad will be upgrading speeds for all clients on the following networks at no cost on April 1st for the full months of April and May 2020.
  • Vumatel
  • Evotel
  • Link Africa
  • Octotel (This is a Web sQuad initiative)
  • We're waiting for clarity on a few other networks.
Full Ts and Cs will be published and emails will be sent to our clients over the weekend to clear up the initiative details.

Thanks for the update. Will see if I can pick up anything - weird because the cable break was very early this morning.

Are there any details on this? I'm interested to see if Openserve prices will be decreasing around the board.

We don't expect massive changes - Line rentals have gone up. IPC is just more aligned with the rest of the fibre industry. This means we can finally introduce 100 and 200 Mbps packages and ensure these deliver the quality our clients have come to expect from our network.

WACS Outage: The cut is on the cable belonging to TATA and is between Highbridge (UK) and Seixal (Portugal). There is no recent update on this matter further to the one above. So we're still waiting to find out if it's submarine or terrestrial and an ETR

Thank you for the update! Damn I love your service!

Edit: Sucks that it has to happen on my Bday let alone during the lockdown lol. At least Netflix still works perfectly. Time to binge watch Ozark.

There is likely not going to be any price changes. It will vary from ISP to ISP but 200/100 will likely not be less than roughly R1500, 100/50 will not be less than roughly R1150. This is very rough guesstimates. IP Connect will be in line give or take what Vumatel is charging but then raw line rental prices will increase.

The only thing that will change is that most ISPs will actually be able to offer Openserve at good prices compared to before where it was simply not financially possible. ISPs like CISP and Afrihost mentioned on the forum before that their entry level packages on Openserve was making a loss and the higher packages they were breaking even.

@websquadza I am aware of the WACS break. Struggling to stream via Real Debrid, but download from it is fine. Not really an issue will just download until it gets fixed

Yeah, I'm guessing that RD streaming is more latency sensitive than HTTP downloads - ie TCP window times are a little too small (could be from your device or their server). This leads to massive volumes of retransmits. You can confirm this with a PCAP on your router.

Thanks, Appreciate it! Really hoping this is a terrestrial break and not 40 km out at sea.

Happy Birthday! Have a good one and enjoy the Netflix Binge

Getting a lot of disconnects from The Division 2 servers...

If you're able to select France or Frankfurt servers, these will be much closer than London and probably more reliable. Problem is the closest Division 2 sever is now 200ms away (Frankfurt).

Yep could definitely feel that. Will see if it allows us to select servers. Thank you!

Yeah France is probably the best but damn Cloudflare. I wonder how much cash they spend on Seacom transit because they are operating better than Macrolan/Seacom ISP.
