Evening - apologies for my delayed reply tonight. Looks like theres a major outage on Vumatel in KZN. It’s really been a tough few weeks for all the networks in the area. If it isn’t a break on a NLD, it’s a regional route or an area.
 
Latency in CPT is pretty rubbish to international, local hops adding around 70ms before peering point out to the UK..........eish.

Tonight was just a Vuma specific issue which affected the region. Vuma handles their own backhauls and all ISPs pick up traffic from them at the same place.

However, there are multiple vendors providing links into KZN if you’re referring to NLD (national long distance) issues of the past few days.

The outages of the past few weeks have affected all these vendors and more or less at the same time. Our network for example has multiple diverse routes to JHB and CPT from KZN using different vendors to ensure redundancy. These paths go down (it’s nothing new to see a path go down, that’s why we have a few) - and traffic moves to others without you noticing. We’ve had one path see almost 500 hours of downtime last year without you noticing (it’s been removed). The issue the past month in particular has been the frequency and spread of the outages. Multiple vendors experiencing outages at the same time in geographically distant locations. And it’s affected everyone who depends on these paths.

Testing a different path on one upstream and will re-introduce this tonight. Thanks for your patience here.

Any issues around the Waterkloof/Monument Park areas (Pretoria). The area has been having a power outage since 23.50 last night. LOS was fine until a minute ago. Now it's ominously flashing red :/

A few other people on the local Whatsapp groups confirmed the same. Probably power related. Hopefully no cables cut whilst repairing the stolen power cables.
