Thanks a lot for the informative replies guys. I see the trolls came out on this one I'm going to definitely try the pool salt n vinegar concoctions. I even bought that burner. But unfortunately it arrived broken. I will regrout the bad sections then seal n treat with salt going forward. Im thinking a cement based slurry with bonding liquid for deeper sections then kiln dried sand and proper sealer. I believe the previous owner used salt as well or some other chemical that actually dissolved some of the clay paving bricks.

Use sulphuric acid, far cheaper than hydrochloric acid. And it can be neutralised a day later with a followup spray of Sodium Hypochlorite (normal household bleach).

No you can't do that --- have to keep the bleach for covid 19.

Nope actually following as I too have the same issues and I don't have green fingers except being able to grow weeds and grass perfectly in-between paving.
