A bunch of Telkom contractors have just pitched up in my area (Faerie Glen, Pretoria East) and are busy installing what looks like last-mile FTTH infrastructure. A whole bunch of trenches have been dug along the residential pavements (yet again) for the characteristic green plastic fibre cable ducts, and fibre optic cable is being strung along the existing aerial distribution system that carries the normal voice/DSL copper wiring.

Waiting to see if they're going to install any kind of terminal equipment on the old wooden poles.
Interestingly, Telkom's new FTTH coverage map shows both "FTTH available" and "FTTH planned" areas, but my area is miles away from any of them!
