Hey alot of people have made alot of different comments about cpu's e.g. Intel vs AMD. Duel core vs Quad core.

if you wanna do serious processing (studio max type stuff) yeah, quad core!

for decent gaming though a e8xxx will be sweet.

don't touch AMD at the moment, unless you are hell-bent on getting the second best

q9300 overclocks poorly and has a smaller cache

q9450 seems like a good choice

if you on a budget nothing wrong with a phenom and amd mobo's are very cheap with tons of features

sure the phenom is second best but its top for pricing/performance and with the cheap mobo packed full of features i think the amd quadcores are very good

for 12k if i was you i would look at getting amd man

i mean the performance is not that far off intel maybe 15% at most

you get a great mobo, good quadcore then you can spend your saving on a nice 22" or more memory

dont buy amd if you want to overclock though

It will be anything but a crap Intel for 12k. You can get the Intel Core 2 Extreme for 12k but then you won't have any money for anything else. rolf!

You can look at the Q9300 and still get the usual jaw-dropping components.

Rolling with the Q6600 at 3Ghz. At around 1.28 vcore, temps are like 40 idle 44-45 loaded with such minimal cooling in the box, third party HSF and Arctic Silver Ceramique paste.. The performance is superb.
Bottom line, loving the Q6600.

I'd suggest the Q9300 still, although killadoob may have more experience, he's owned a Q6600, E8200 AND Q9300...
