Anyone tried these before? Saw them at Tops today, never seen it before.

It's a blend from the Ian Macleod stable. They do a schit tonne of stuff...some good (Smokehead, Tamdhu) the rest...meh.

I've tried the Full and Smoky and the Rich and Refined.

Full and Smoky is as good/bad as Famous Grouse. I gave it away.

Rich and Refined is actually quite flavourful and is not bad at all. Very highland/Dalmore-esque. a bit on the astringent side but it is actually a bit more flavourful than the Dalmore range (haven't tried the 12 or 15). I think it's probably one of the better scotch whiskies in that price range.

This is quite interesting. It's a blend from Ian Macleod distillers (I think they started way back as independent bottlers). They do pretty good bottlings, I think. They also do Smokehead and own Tamdhu, Glengoyne, and Rosebank. Anything small batch, 46%abv, non-chill-filtered and natural colour (don't know about the latter here though) is something that I would try. Might be worth it for these prices.

Is there an echo in here...in here...in here...?

Glenlivet does it again with their "secret code" Whisky:

Not bad when you see prices in the UK of R 1 800...

Spectra is a limited edition from Glenlivet that follows similar releases in previous years; Alpha (2013), Cipher (2016), Code (2018), and invites whisky enthusiasts to unlock the mysteries of the whisky by not disclosing any tasting notes, age or cask information.
The Spectra pack contains a set of three 200ml whiskies, all bottled at 43%, and showcases the range of styles the Glenlivet distillery is able to produce. Via a QR code on the box, you are invited online where you can compare your notes against master distiller Alan Winchester.

Is the Spectra a good "investment" or more for drinking and enjoying?

It's a limited edition Glenlivet. Chances are it'll be a good investment. Bummer about the 200ml bottles.

I bought a 15 year old bottle of Glenlivet in the recent Amazon sale for £35. Good deal if you ask me.

Cool. Incidentally, has anyone tried the 9yo Fino one?
At the distillery after the tour & tasting yes, but can't recall much in terms of tasting notes, also the pinotage finish for that matter

I remember generally preferring the Oloroso finish, that's about it

EDIT: sidenote, Checkers sold a cask strength bottling of Three Ships through their private barrel collection some time ago, loved it, wish I could buy it again

Does anyone know good local online whisky retailers or liquor stores with online shops that ship nationally? I know of some of the obvious ones like Makro, Takealot, Whisky Brother, Wild about Whisky, and Norman Goodfellows, but would like to make sure in case I don't know of any other good ones.

Oh well, thanks anyway! I think I should just jump in and try it so that I can get to experience some variety.
