Why is it impossible to cancel a Cell C contract

I have been trying for the past few MONTHS to cancel a Cell C contract. It is impossible to get through to the retention department. Every single time I try to call 083 143 I get "The number you have dialled does not exist". Then if I call the customer service number and finally get through to an operator, explain the whole story, they try to put me through to the retention department and the line is dropped every.single.time. I have even tried to cancel from inside a Cell C branch, using the branches phone to call the retention department and actually managed to speak to someone who told me that "due to security reasons" they could not cancel my contract if I called on a Cell C branches phone. THE WORST SERVICE EVER!!!

What do I need to do to cancel a contract?

There is no shortcut other than cancelling your bank account and reopening with a new number. Did this at FNB in 15 minutes.
Tried to cancel a contract since January. 115 emails and maybe 45 calls to ...145

Cell C do make it impossible to cancel a contract they just cut you off don't return emails and don't help in store. ICASA needs to assist as what they are doing is illegal.

I canceled my contract two weeks ago. Phoned them and requested for it to be canceled, the whole process took less than 10 mins.
