Hook up your door bell to a smart switch and then you get alerted on your phone when a perp/courier comes to your front door, then you can check who it is with the camera. How about this Edimax peephole camera, or this door hook one?
How much are they per camera and can they work standalone without any other hardware or subscriptions?Just buy the Wyze cam v3. End of story. Brilliant with amazing clarity compared to Yi and Wyze v2.
One step up from motion detection, it has person detection set to go on at night, so if an intruder is in my property then Alexa will wake me up to let me know, and will warn the intruder that armed response is on the way.

I've been using a few Aqara devices around the house and am very impressed with them. It's just a pity that their local pricing is so high. I think it is the same company that brings in Yeelight products but these are at least priced reasonably.I'm using the Aqara G2H with Homekit pointing outdoors thru a window. Not perfect but
No regrets
Cloud storage from any brand doenst appear to be available in South Africa, at all.
No I tried (Xiaomi, Reolink and Wyze). Can you not use a vpn to get around that?

These won't be very useful at night. The IR leds of these IP cameras reflect off the surface of the window at night so you won't be able to see anything outside. I use them mainly inside the house.Any opinion on the Xiaomi cameras?

Looking to put it in a window facing outside, and not interested in getting a proper outdoor camera like the EzViz Husky Air. Easier to power etc.
Apparently you just switch off the Infrared led on cameras where this is an option ,and provide some light source outside. These won't be very useful at night. For outside, I bought IP66 wireless battery powered IP cameras from Banggood (search 'Pripaso'). Easy installation and works well on the app. Only downsides are the batteries need to be recharged every 4-6 weeks and then, like all other outside cameras, there is the risk that it's easy to steal if it's outside.
I use an Ezviz C3W Husky in this manner, outside light is a 15w LED, the image is great.Apparently you just switch off the Infrared led on cameras where this is an option ,and provide some light source outside.
Yip, thanks, aware of it. Picked it up in the following video. See from 1:00 onwards. Also be aware that some cameras use PIR for motion detection, which doesn't work too well (if at all) through glass.....
